Im glad it got done, and im very glad Dallas didnt pay no 100mil for him. Dallas keeps making the decisions on a young team that has a bright future.

This is basically a 3 yr 37mil deal and then he can be cut or traded if the team wants to go that route and will only have at the most a 8mil dollar cap hit in 2018.

The Cowboys have gotten ridiculously good at negotiating contracts lately and in a short period of time.

I think they would consider restructuring his deal in 2018 if he is still putting up numbers like he is now, but I will keep in mind that Stephen said they dont want to be paying a WR big money at a older age. They didnt want to get into situations AZ and HOU found themselves in. Dez will only be 30 going into 2018 and his price will be lower than what it is now due to age, so i can see a restructure very likely.

Glad this got done and now on to TC.

where do you get 3yr 37 million, when if he's on the roster next season it triggers the remaining amount of the guaranteed money which is a total of 45 million. that alone blows your 37 million out.

My only issue with the deal is I'd of put as much of the guaranteed in this year, he dropped to a 7 million cap hit, I'd of raised his cap hit to 16 million, that'd of left 3.5 and Carr's deal we could still play with, and have his cap hit next season low, giving us money to resign Greg Hardy, Mclain, and Macfadden. but that's just me.

I'd like to know as well (hope he's right tho)

also, does it even matter whether they absorb more of Dez's contract this year since they can carry forward the same amount they could have chosen to absorb?

I actually have come to the conclusion that this has more to do with his tempo and leadership, and setting the tone at TC, then actually wanting to get it done. IMO that is why he has a new deal as JG did not want him missing TC, as his work ethic is contagious!

Ok, I see where Latin got the 3/37 as he said if Dez is cut at the end of the 3rd year he'd cost us 8 million in dead money. 37+8 is 45. So he's assuming the entire 3rd year salary is guaranteed which would be a 17 million cap hit.

No, it does not matter how much is deferred in a contract if they don't use the extra cap space.

They now have about 17M in cap space. They need about 6M more for Hardy's per game bonuses if he plays 12 games. The practice squad will be about 1M and there will be another 1M hit once the season starts and all 53 players are included under the cap. That leaves about 9M. If there are any players on PUP or IR their cap hits will take away from the 9M in cap space.

It's always good to have the extra space, just in case a good player somehow becomes available. They could use some of it to give existing players a new contract, but that can be done by just having the new contract start next year without any effect on the current year if needed.

With Hardy and Dez at what I would liked to of seen we'd still have about 3.5 left. The practice squad doesn't count against the cap only active roster players do.

Edit yes IR players do also.

Sorry, but that is wrong.

During the off-season, only the top 51 contracts (and dead money) count against the cap. Once the season, starts, the following count against the cap:
All 53 players on the active roster.
All Players on the Practice Squad (10 players x ~105K).
All Players on PUP/IR.
All Dead Money.

I "Liked" you because you're Navy. You guys liked to snub us Coasties back in the day (maybe even now, I don't know), but we always respected you and I'll tell you what: We may have been more busy than you were.
Still: Respect and Salute.

you are correct about the PS players counting against the cap, a few years back I don't believe they did. Last year there was a max of 8 players on the PS, has that changed this season? also the minimum a PS player can earn is 6k per week, and are paid weekly, if signed to an active squad they are guaranteed 3 weeks of pay regardless of if they are only on the squad for one week. Also, a PS player can't go from one PS to another PS, they can go to any team's active roster. as for our top 53, right now our top 51 doesn't include some of our players that will be on the active roster such as Collins. I'm using overthecap.com for the numbers I use. yes dead money, and IR/PUP players count, I figured that was a given lol...

Corso, I've been out a long time over 20 years, back in the day we had a blast, but now they can't have any fun it seems. My 20yo is in the Navy assigned to the USS Benfold out of San Diego, which is being forward deployed to Japan in August. He's loving it though, made 3rd in under a year and received a NAM too.

It really doesn't matter. They can roll over any unused space to next year. It is better to have more in reserve this year than to need it and not be able to get it.

They could always make a trade for a RB if the right deal comes along.

Big kudos to him. I've been out for 15 so I'm certain things are different now. Kind of sad really, but times change.
I know for a fact I wouldn't have been able to pull the bull I did then, now. I remember being in situations like they were straight from the movie Stripes and now?
No
Way.

Still- Our boys do what they must to this very day and I will shake each and every one of their hands, should they approach.

It is most certainly a 3yr/45m deal in cash. But it only costs DAL 37m against the cap. They would have 8m in dead money after year 3. But it won't be a 3year deal.

Then DAL gets the benefit of the long term deal and gets Dez for 2/25m. He doesn't strike me as the type to lose it right away. His skill set in not based on top speed or finesse.
