I'm splitting this up into two posts. My player and people encounters and what I thought of the game.
The weekend started out with a hellish snow covered drive up. Going 45 in a 70 as the roads for more than half the trip had snow blown across Interstate 90. Kinda scary and made the trip that much longer. Our hotel was a beautiful Quality Inn down the road from Mall of America for just over $60 a night. After that drive I didn't want to go too far for a bite to eat and Denny's was connected to our hotel. We went to the hotel bar first for a drink and ran into and sat with one of the Cowboys press box guys. He was a hoot! Really nice and is going to send me DVDs and photos from their home games.
I got invited to go out for drinks with my friend Ryan and Colombo's brother, but I was exhausted and so was dad and I didn't want to be hungover for the game in that loud stadium or drive down town Minneapolis in hopes of finding a parking space big enough for my truck so I passed (kinda wished I hadn't now)!
Ryan is good friends with Proctor so I have gotten to talk to him a couple of times when they play at the Dome. I met Ryan at the Dome about five years ago and he lives about 50 miles from me. I know Proctor is not everyone's favorite player, but I don't know why he is not starting. The guy is MASSIVE! He is pure muscle and built. I would think that is what you would want on the line. A few of the guys walking out could drop a pound or 20 if they want to be quick on the line. On top of how big Proctor is he is probably one of the nicest guys I have met on the team. Big teddy bear is a good way to describe him. He gave us hugs and handshakes before he went out to stretch and I gave him a knuckle punch and I swear it would take FOUR of my fists to cover his one. I have little hands, but man! I should have had a picture of that! After the game people with disabilities go up the Vikings tunnel and where the Cowboys come out to go to their bus and I ran into quite a few players and Proctor was the one to stop give us hugs (practically knocked me out of my chair with his size and hug) and said he hoped to see us soon. I'm hoping to catch him in Free Reign and hoping to ask Sevendust if they can open for them on a tour. I promised I would ask.
I got a few winks from players before, during, and after the game. They aren't one for coming over very often. They are in the zone and concentrating and I understand that. Jerry Jones looked ticked off at the beginning of the game when I yelled his name. Maybe it's the face lift and he just looks like that all the time? I don't know -- he just did not look like he was in a good mood and that was before the game had even started. Stephen did stop from a distance and say Hi at half time.
When the game was over Choice and a CB and I can't tell you who it was came over to Ryan and me and gave us their gloves and towels. Ryan got three gloves and I got one and a towel. There is no reason for RBs to fumble with those gloves on. They have NICE grip to them. Choice was very nice and told me to just pull it off his hands. Some players stayed on the field, but Witten and others went in ASAP. A lot of em threw gloves and towels on their way in.
You can barely see me on the FOX footage on the first Rice TD. You can see me if you pause it, but there is a purple barrier around out section now (a player fell during the season coming out of the tunnel and they made the Vikings put up the barricade) and I was wearing a blue Ware jersey so it blended well. I had the best seat in the house if you were a Cowboys fan. Front row, first corner right where they come out. Everyone sees me when they come in and out.
My favorite video guy for the Cowboys came over to me before the game and we chatted. He wanted to know if I was going to get anything signed -- meaning my sign and I said I was hoping to. About third quarter he came up to me and videotaped me and the sign and my small blue and white pomp pomp from Texas Stadium saying Go Cowboys. I have absolutely NO IDEA where this footage ends up. He taped me when I met Woodson. He wears an NFL vest and is ALWAYS at away games on the Cowboys sideline and I have seen him at home games. Tall bald guy with glasses, but I do not know his name. Nice as can be with a lot of footage of me. Probably haunt me someday since I don't know what they do with this footage. I don't think the team needs to see ME when reviewing game footage. Ha!
I absolutely love games at the Metrodome. The people that work there are nothing, but nice. I think I have gone one too many times as so many remember who I am. The same has happened in Dallas -- taxi cab drivers remember me and I just feel bad when I don't remember everyone that I have crossed paths with. I will be back next year when we play Minnesota at the Dome and I hope Favre is back next year.
And after watching all the players -- it's official. I want to marry a tight end! Ha! Oh my god they are gorgeous from head to toe! All of em, but I think my crush is on John Phillips. He was the last player out and had to wait for the National Anthem to get done so I had a nice view of him and *sigh* he is one FINE lookin' man!
