That's the huge question surrounding the team as it returns to practice today.

Fears of an emotional hangover are justified after the 33-31 loss to the Giants on Sunday night. A lot was put into the opening of Cowboys Stadium, so it's possible the team could be a bit sluggish today.

"It's still one game," Wade Phillips said Monday. "We're still 1-1. We've got to go forward from there. Probably everybody is going to lose a game.

"So it's how you react after a loss, or after that first loss, I guess, that determines a lot. This game will be really important for us that way. If we can improve in just a couple of areas, I think we'll be better."

The Cowboys have lost back-to-back games only twice since Phillips replaced Bill Parcells as coach in 2007. Last season, they lost to St. Louis 34-14 with Brad Johnson at quarterback after Tony Romo broke a finger in the 30-24 overtime loss at Arizona the week before.

Dallas also finished last season with consecutive defeats, following their 33-24 embarrassment to Baltimore in the last game at Texas Stadium with the 44-6 disaster in Philadelphia in the season finale.

Working in the Cowboys' favor this week is their 0-2 opponent, Carolina, and the fact the game is on Monday night.

"It's good that we're playing Monday, which gives us a little more time," Phillips said. "The further you get away from a loss the better it is."

Still, the Panthers are likely to be desperate and they have plenty of talent to pull off the road upset. And let's not forget that Dallas has lost four of its last six games dating back to the end of last season.
