IRVING - The Cowboys defense has been firing on all cyclinders the last three games, surrendering only 17 points and posting back-to-back shutouts.

But QB Donovan McNabb said Tuesday it wasn't cornerback Mike Jenkins and Co. who shut down the Eagles' high-flying attack in Sunday's 24-0 thrashing.

"I think it's more that we stopped ourselves," McNabb said in a conference call with the Dallas media. "The Cowboys are a great defense. They have a lot of players who have made a lot of plays all throughout their careers and guys who are on the rise. But obviously (it's) more that we stopped ourselves. We didn't capitalize on our opportunities and mistakes that we made really cost us."

McNabb's overthrow on a deep ball to an open DeSean Jackson and an errant third-down pass to Jeremy Maclin were among those missed opportunities.

"That's part of it," McNabb said. "I'm really hard on myself as far as giving these guys the opportunity to make plays...Those are two passes I would love to have back....We are going to work all week to get our timing back."

It will be interesting to see how Jenkins and other Dallas defenders respond to McNabb's comments.

McNabb has said this after each loss to the Cowboys over the years if I am not mistaken.

Oh no he didn't.

I agree with him. Not that they would have won, but they had two definite missed opportunities there.

No to mention McNabb's fumble in the red zone which probably took points off the board as well.

Curious he didn't mention that...

Well the only reason we didn't score 38 points instead of 24 were missed opportunities. Romo overthrowing Ogletree, and then a tipped ball turning into an INT in the red zone.

The difference is a good team takes advantage of other opportunities during a game instead of blaming laying a goose egg on two bad throws. They could've scored a TD on both those throws Mcnabb 'wishes he had back' and they still would've been drummed 28-14.

McNabb is partly right. The Eagles did stop themselves at times and McNabb did miss on some opportunities. He does that in every game because he is not an accurate passer.

The league average this year for completion percentage was 60.90%. McNabb had a 60.27% completion percentage for the year. His career completion percentage is 59.02% and he only completed 55.56% for the game. He will always miss some guys during a game. That is why you force him to move the length of the field and defend on giving up the big plays. Eventually McNabb will miss open guys.

When McNabb wasn't missing guys on his own the Dallas defense applied sufficient pressure to create some errant throws and limited the Eagles big play opportunities. The defense did stop the Eagles as well as the Eagles stopping themselves.

Good that means they think they can win without any additional effort or adjustments. Same game plan.

Dallas meanwhile needs to continue to improve each week, take nothing for granted, and focus on every detail. Go Cowboys!!! Win by 14 plus so we can relax and enjoy the playoffs.

Every team has missed opprotunities in ever game. The team that makes the most of their opprotunities wins the game. McNabb and Co. didn't do that so they lost. Period.

Yeah, he was really being hard on himself with that stupid grin he kept on his face after those passes..

And people call the Cowboys arrogant...

That said he will be justified if the Cowboys don't win on Saturday.

I just hope the Eagles "stop themselves" again this Sunday!

I think McNabbs comments are very fair. He gives the Dallas defense their due. At the same time he believes he can beat them if given the chance. I'd expect Romo to think the same way if the tables were turned.

Bulletin board material? I suppose it will be because that is part of the process. Teams often try to take offense at the comments of others just to give themselves even greater fire.

What he seems to be missing is that there weren't many opportunities for them to capitalize on, because defense stopped them and offense kept them off the field. Ball control Donny.

But hey remain in denial; with that sort of attitude, chances are you won't recognize, let alone fix what is wrong.

If you're going to count the Eagles missed opportunities, then you should count the Cowboys missed opportunities too. Romo missed a wide open deep pass to Olgetree that should've been a touchdown. Romo had a tipped ball intercepted in the redzone. They should've been at least 3 pts on that drive and Suisham "missed" a FG that could've been called good.

So, both teams missed opportunities to put points on the board.

OK McNabb. It had nothing to do with the pressure you were under or how the D played that caused your offense to not play well. It is just so obvious
