Pacman Jones fitting in nicely
IRVING - Although he got beat a couple of times by Sam Hurd this morning, it's clear that Pacman Jones is fitting in nicely so far.
"Good impressions, real good impressions," receiver Patrick Crayton said of the suspended cornerback. "I don't think that was ever a question. Everybody knows he can play. What was he, the fifth or the sixth pick overall?"
Crayton said he's impressed with the way Jones, who the Cowboys acquired in a trade with Tennessee, has picked up the defense.
"He learned it pretty quickly," Crayton said. "I haven't heard anybody repeat a whole lot to him. I think he's going to step in (and do well). He's taking care of his responsibilities."

Hurd has strong showing
IRVING - With his reps increased because of Terrell Owens' no show, Sam Hurd made the most of an opportunity this morning, shinging big time during 1-on-1 drills.
Two of his victims were Pacman Jones and Anthony Henry. He blew past Henry on a post route for a big gain.
"It gives me a chance to work more with Tony Romo and the first group, and that's always good," said Hurd, a 2002 Brackenridge graduate who backs up Owens. "But, at the same time, I would love to have him around because his energy makes you want to be better and try harder."
Owens has served as a mentor for Hurd since he entered the league in 2006 as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Northern Illinois.
"One thing he has taught me is to work hard every single play because you never know when it's going to be your last," Hurd said.

Romo: T.O.'s absence no big deal
IRVING - We still don't know why Terrell Owens wasn't at practice today, but his teammates are united in saying his absence is "no big deal."
That was a direct quote from quarterback Tony Romo, who said Owens was at team headquarters for a physical yesterday and was in attendance at a pre-practice team meeting today.
Romo said he knows why Owens was absent but isn't at liberty to share the information with the media.
"But I can tell you that I don't think it's anything you guys should worry about," Romo told reporters gathered around his locker.
Rain, strong winds and the possibility of lightning forced the Cowboys to end their morning practice 45 minutes early. The abbreviated workout kicked off the start of a mandatory three-day minicamp for the defending NFC East champions.

T.O. skips practice
IRVING - Terrell Owens missed the first practice of the Cowboys' mandatory three-day minicamp on Tuesday for personal reasons, a team spokesman said.
The reasons weren't immediately clear. Coach Wade Phillips is scheduled to address the media at 1:30 p.m.
Also missing were receiver Terry Glenn and safety Ken Hamlin. Both are staying away from the practice field because of contract disputes.
Practice started at 10:30 a.m. and is scheduled to run until 12:15 p.m. The day's second workout begins at 3 p.m. and runs to 4:45 p.m.

Hurd armed and ready
IRVING - News of the apparent robbery that left Oakland receiver Jevon Walker in a Las Vegas hospital is sure to be a hot topic of conversation in the Cowboys locker room today as they begin their mandatory three-day minicamp.
I talked to receiver Sam Hurd on Saturday about how NFL players have been dealing with their security in the wake of the murder of the Commanders' Sean Taylor.
Hurd, a graduate of San Antonio Brackenridge, said he's not taking any chances.
"I've got a security system (in his home)," said Hurd, who still lives in the neighborhood he grew up in just south of San Antonio's downtown. "I just got a German shepard and he is a mean one. I've got enough to protect myself.
"I got a legal gun. I''m registered. If someone comes in my house (to rob him), you've got World War III going on. You come to my house, I'm going to get me a grenade. You're going to get it all in my house."
