CARROLLTON - Cowboys receiver Sam Hurd is working out on the sidelines with one of the team's athletic trainers while the rest of team begins the second week of offseason training activities at Standridge Stadium.

Hurd, a San Antonio Brackenridge graduate, participated in last week's OTAs and even got things started during seven-on-seven drills last Tuesday with a spectacular diving catch along the sideline. Tuesdays are the only days during OTAs open to the media.

No word yet on whether Hurd suffered an ankle setback. He missed all but three games last season with a high-ankle sprain that required surgery.

Hurd has been a solid special teams performer since joining the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2006, but the team is still waiting for him to become a threat at receiver.

Hurd to miss rest of week

CARROLLTON - A left quad injury will prevent Cowboys receiver Sam Hurd from practicing the rest of the week, coach Wade Phillips said this afternoon after the team completed the first day of its second week of OTAs.

Hurd suffered the injury during practice last week. Phillips said it's not serious, but he wants to make sure Hurd is 100 percent before he returns to practice.

More time for the undrafted WR's.....not a terrible thing. I hate it for Hurd though.

I don't see any reason why Hurd couldn't step into Crayton's role and outperform him in nearly every sense this season. They're similar receivers and I think Crayton's hands are leaving him.

If Hurd's working out on the sidelines, it doesn't sound too serious.

I like Hurd and think he plays with a lot of heart, hope it isn't anything too bad. However, it does open things up more for guys like Manny Johnson and Ogletree.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Cut the injured bum!

As much as people complain about Austin's injury issues, he's getting about as bad.

Hurd showed a lot of promise.

Didn't T.O. put Hurd under his underarm and help him?

which is why we really can't cut any of them cause they're all injury prone. Hurd,Austin last year,Stanglass since he was born, Roy Wi11iams since college. only Crayton isn't injury prone.

I hope this isn't a major setback or a real setback of any kind for Hurd. I like the guy but he and Austin both really need to stay healthy this year. Them being injured just has to stop.

and Travis Wilson, looking at his draft profile, and he's a similar athlete to Greg Jennings, just bigger and a tad slower, Jennings ran a 4.42 at the '06 Combine and Wilson a 4.47

Yep, seems like he lost the confidence in himself. He used to have glue for hands. But ever since the Giants Playoff game, he hasn't been the same.

I wonder why he didn't make it in Cleveland. Anyone know?

very raw, had trouble catching the ball, played in a few games his rookie year, put on inactive and that effectively ended his career there, been on the Broncos PS before signing w/ our's last year

The other big news was the Browns cutting ties with two under performing, past draft choices, Travis Wilson and David McMillan. Wilson was done in by a stellar pre-season by fellow receiver Syndric Steptoe, the promise of 2008 draft pick Paul Hubbard and a failure to produce consistently in pre-season when he had the chance.

The 2006 third round draft choice produced only two receptions in his two years with the Browns and was inactive for all 16 games last season. Every Ken Dorsey got to suit up in 2007. When Ken Dorsey gets to wear pads on Sunday and you do not, it is not a good sign.

So bad hands?

Didn't he also have some injuries?

I saw that Denver also signed him and released him. Just wondering if there's a real problem with him or if he's just a guy who slipped through the cracks.

For what it's worth, Bill Jones who works for Channel 11 is a big OU guy and he seems to like Wilson a lot.
