IRVING - Nickel corner Orlando Scandrick's roller-coaster sophomore season appears to be on the rise again.

After a strong training camp and preseason, Scandrick had a poor start that resulted in fellow second-year player Mike Jenkins leapfrogging him to become the starter at cornerback opposite Terence Newman. Then came a serious of up-and-down games, some of which Scandrick really struggled in.

But with a strong outing in Sunday's 17-0 win over the Commanders, Scandrick appears to be on the rise again. He finished the game with three tackles, one tackle for loss, one pass breakup, one forced fumble and one special teams tackle.

"I thought Scandrick had a big game," Wade Phillips said. "...It's good to see him coming on at the end of the year."

Said Scandrick: "I didn't start the season off the way I wanted to, so I've got to finish it strong."

Scandrick said he's thrilled to be playing for the NFC East title on Sunday.

"I grew up seeing teams win division championships and get hats and T-shirts that said division champs. I want one of those hats, one of those T-shirts," Scandrick said. "I want a home playoff game. I want a chance to play in front of our fans again."

I think he may need to hit the weight room in the offseason. He gets boxed out by the receiver way too much for my taste.

It's been good to see him rebound, because he was a smelly mess early in the year.

Ups and downs of a season will do either do two things.

1. Build character

2. Destroy a player

I think Scandrick is building on his character.

Good attitude by Scandrick. Hopefully he can turn it around, and be the starter next to Jenkins whenever we decide Newman isn't starter material anymore. Maybe 3-4 years from now.

He made big plays on 'designed' plays, like the CB blitzes that he seemed to execute very well, but he still seemed overmatched against top receivers in the middle of the field at times. Definitely a good attitude and a young guy who's got plenty of time and potential to make it happen.

I like Scandrick and felt like he would rebound at some point. It appears he is coming on at the right time.

Scandrick will be fine. He's just got perhaps the toughest job in on the field: the nickle corner covering slot WR's. The room for error is much larger in the middle of the field compared to the outside. Plus, those shifty WR's are hard to cover 1-1. I hope he holds his own this week against whoever Fatboy sends his way in the slot.

If Scandrick was credited for forcing the fumble on Campbell, then why is he not credited w/the sack as well?

He's a great slot cover guy, and we'll be lucky to hang onto him beyond his initial contract. The fact he gave Jenkins (possible Pro Bowl player) a run for his money early in the year demonstrates how talented he is. And he'll continue to improve, as will Jenkins. Newman, Jenkins and Scandrick are an excellent trio of CBs - among the best in the league without a doubt.

Thank you. He hit the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage and it was ruled a fumble which is proof that it wasn't an incomplete pass. Therefore it was a sack. Something is fishy.

I don't know, but I thought D. Ware was credited with 2 sacks and 2 FF against NO.

What's the difference?

I've noticed him playing pretty solid coverage lately...In fact, the times his man caught the pass were usually perfect throws/catches that were made in spite of scandrick being draped all over his man.

Let's not forget those sacks he's had on the QB's as well...That hit on Jason Campbell last game was like WHOA!

Give Scandrick another offseason and he could be a very solid CB. Not sure he wil get to Jenkins level or not but that gives us three good players at that position.

That being said, this is a passing league more than ever it seems. I wouldn't mind spending a mid round draft pick on a CB because we almost need 4 good CB's the way teams spread the field now and in case of injury.

Scandrick is very good. His position is one of the toughest on the whole football field. You need to be physical, tough and quick to man that spot. He is our future at CB when TNew is gone.

I also agree that with so many teams using 3-WR sets as their base set now, you need at least 4 good CBs. Preferably one of them is a physical CB/S hybrid type who can play in the nickel in various roles. I think Allen Ball looks like he can do this for us. He isn't the greatest cover guy but he can do it, he has experience at the position, he is physical and he seems to be a reliable tackler.

Playing for a hat and a T-shirt! I Like It!

:D

That's hunger right there - this team needs more of it than it has shown in past years.
