One of the more intriguing draft picks for the Cowboys is Boise State cornerback Orlando Scandrick, who was selected Sunday in the fifth round after skipping his senior season.
Scandrick's stock rose after he ran the 40-yard dash at the combine in a blazing 4.32 seconds. But reviews from scouts were mixed, which is probably why he lasted so long.
Ravens director of college scouting Eri DeCosta was a big fan, telling the Baltimore Sun that the 5-foot-11, 198-pound Scandrick’s cover ability is "very impressive" and that "his best football is ahead of him."
But DeCosta also noted Scandrick was inconsistent as a tackler, an assessment Pro Football Weekly shared. In fact, the magazine's overall assessment of Scandrick was mostly negative: "Does not play physically. Gives up too many big plays. Not a strong tackler. Very average ball skills. Not a worker. Has a long memory. Is moody and immature. Takes himself out of games. Cannot play with pain."
Scandrick, though, doesn't lack confidence. Asked why he entered the draft after his junior season, he said, "I felt good about my athletic ability." He also said his athleticism was a big reason why he blocked a school-record four blocked kicks last season.
