ASHBURN, Va. — The feud between Donovan McNabb and Mike Shanahan and his son continued Thursday with a blistering statement from the quarterback's agent.

Fletcher Smith took aim directly at the Washington coach and Kyle Shanahan, the Commanders' offensive coordinator, for the way they have handled the benching of his client.

Smith said the bad blood between the quarterback and the coaches is due to McNabb's suggestions for improving the Commanders' offense.

“I believe there is tension between Donovan and Kyle that's rooted in the fact that Donovan has suggested modifications to Kyle's offense based on intricacies Donovan has learned in his NFL career,” Smith wrote. “For example, Donovan has asked all year that the team run more screen passes to help manage the pass rush more effectively. Ironically, Kyle decided to employ Donovan's suggestions after he unceremoniously benched him.”

I also heard ESPN talking about the way it was handled; an admonishment benching if you will. The thought of a Vindictive benching, and "in-your-face"
move or demonstration of power statement to the team as an example to speak to what could happen to players if you go agaiNst the Shanahan grain or policy. I know Haynesworth is not loved here by Cowboy fans; in fact, I never approved of his antics when he stepped on a Cowboys players a couple of years ago (uncertain of the name/actual season). One more example ...

Clinton Portis has a radio show here in the Washington DC area. Clinton made a statement on the the air, that the Commanders were playing there games trying to be safe rather than playing full speed. Clinton belived that players were interested in not being hurt/injured rather than focusing on the game. Shanahan, speaking to the media, denied the Portis accusation; as did DeAngelo Hall. Hmmm, suspicious at best!

However, Shanahan does not seem to be making friends in DC and is constantly under fire by media personalities ..John Riggins, Deion Sanders, and various others. On a more objective perspective, if Shanahan knows what he is doing, he is using a "end justifies the means" strong arm approach. Yields of his strategy probably won't be seem until the coming season; if at all.

McNabb is one-and-done in Washington. He'll be cut. And he will have many options: SF, AZ, MINN, CAR, SEA, MIA, HOU, etc.

Personally, I think McNabb is done as a starter but would be a good backup for someone (no, not the Cowboys).
