Players have to be careful when they talk to radio reporters at camp because many of them only want to do comedy routines or set the players up for practical jokes.
Romo was the victim of the latter after the afternoon practice Wednesday when a reporter from a Dallas station asked the celebrity quarterback: "How would you evaluate the media here at training camp when it comes to respecting your personal life and not asking all those gossip and tabloid type of questions?"
After cracking a joke at the Dallas media's expense, Romo turned serious and said, "Obviously, everyone understands that part of being in the position that I am that people, for certain reasons, want to know about your personal life, and I can understand that," Romo said. "Even if someone asks the question, it's not as if I'm going to look down on someone and think that's a horrible human being or something. But I just prefer to keep certain things private and try to continue to live a semblance of a normal life off the field."
The radio reporter then responded with the punchline: "Has it been hard for you after the breakup?"
To Romo's credit he took it in stride and even offered an answer after chuckling and saying, "You guys are good."
"It's just part of life in some ways," Romo said. "Being out here playing football and going through a lot of different things, I know this: It's great to be out here playing football and it's great to be at training because you love the game. The rest of the stuff is stuff for people to talk about."
And they will.
