Maybe just me, but i really wonder if there's something going on inside the Star with regards to coaches vs management; i wonder if management ala the Jones, McClay & co, are pressing the coaches to
play Conner McGovern , or have a damn good explanation as to why they think he either cannot play or isn't ready to play in the NFL.

- McClay thought so much of McGovern that they had him as high as the 2nd round grade, and per report they only met McGovern at the NFL combine, per McGovern they never met in person for an person interview.

- With Conner Williams at LG and Martin at RG , there wasn't a true need for a new OG.
but Wil McClay convinced the team that he was too good and skilled of a prospect that he should
not be passed up.

- Returning from a year torn pec recovery, McGovern's name is in the fray with all the injuries, poor play of Willliams, and flirtation of vets such as Ron Leary (twice pay offered by Cowboys per Mike Fisher but refused by Leary)

- If Martin is slated to start at RT, then McGovern may be pressed by the coaches to have to assume the
RG role. Just me but i think new OL coach Joe Philibin simply doesn't think much of Mcgovern to want to play him, or is there something medically still not right with McGovern (no injury report of him) .....

I think he's simply behind two guards the team is more comfortable starting. Teams don't like moving linemen around unless they have to, especially on the line, because of continuity. They especially don't like inserting players without experience.

So to insert McGovern at guard, they would have had to move Williams to tackle, so you've got two players starting at positions you haven't seen them play in the NFL. It was easier at the start of the season to just make one change (Steele starting at right tackle). This same logic continued to apply, but they may be at the point where putting McGovern at guard and Martin at tackle makes more sense than playing Steele since their other RT option has to start at LT.

What I'd like to see them do is move Williams to left tackle (which he played in college so he understands the position), start Knight at right tackle and put what I think is the future interior out there together (McGovern, Biadasz and Martin). However, that means making four changes to the original line instead of three (Williams for Smith, McGovern for Williams, Biadasz for Looney and Knight for Collins). That's a lot of change.

hes not good enuf my self he would have been cut

In terms of the number of changes, it's no different whether we move Williams or Martin to T. Knight has played both T spots.
Moving Williams to LT makes more sense to me too. Except for half a game, Williams has played LT more recently than Martin has, and we don't *lose* All Pro performance at G by moving Williams.
And as you say, the future of the oline is likely McGovern, Biadasz, Martin, while Williams will be in a contract year next year.

We will all see how much they suck without Tyron....or at least Dak will see it.

Its football, we were supposed to have depth right? The next man up better be a player cause we lose Sunday and this season is over.

quick---i like your reasoned approach to the subject of McGovern.....i think i agree it just may be Philbin ...he was not part of the team that picked him...often so much politics..who knows?...but we gotta put Martin RT just for this year

and McGovern is a lot stronger than Williams or that is what i have heard...just plug him in at RG....i wish we would have gotten Leary...T Smith said Leary is the strongest lineman of the all world 5 back in 2014...stronger than Martin

and he is only 31...that is relatively young for NFL lineman....i dont like the secret-ism of this coaching staff.....is McGovern hurt or did he take a bunch of "dumb pills"?...or is it a coaching perogative?....i cannot trust Philbin anymore

since last week when he started that UFDA Tackle not named Knight and we all knew what would happen except for him

deep--we lose sunday and we will be exactly like Liston in your profile pic

-I believe McGovern was selected as insurance for Frederick's long-term health. The idea of him playing Center changed when MM handpicked Biaz.
-It's my understanding McGovern is far better suited for a man blocking scheme, that was the scheme Columbo was using when he was drafted.
-For what I have read over the months, McGovern is a phone booth lineman, good matchup against strength, but struggles on the move.

Stephen Jones talked about McGovern a couple days ago. Jones stated McGovern was coming on strong, and needed time after injury and not playing (not getting reps last year)...viewed him as a rookie in way of experience.

All I know is it would be right on time if McGovern started to come thru.

Who is our center back up? Who is our OG back up? McGovern I think , put Williams LT

no mystery in time we will find out, the way Cwil is perceived around here and his injury history now i doubt he gets a starting based contract offer, so hes most likely gone after his deal is up or relegated to backup money and status, so they wanted to plan ahead and McGovern also can play as an emergency C .. no mystery he was hurt his rookie year then comes in his second year with new staff and rash of injuries that the new staff feel they had better options until Mcgovern catches up..

why people harp on rookie/2nd year players that given more time might end up being productive..Impatience is not a virtue..there a reason when you miss the rookie season and your actual rookie season they bring in a new OL coach and tweak the offense..

Who is our center back up? Who is our OG back up? McGovern I think , put Williams LT

people stop Cwill will not play OT at all ever..both staffs see him as G and Fans are crying for years to move him and if you see Martin steele and Knight being used at T and cwill stayed at G , this would have been the MOMENT..it was not ITS NOT HAPPEING SO STOP SUGGESTING IT

TWO PRO STAFFS SEE HIM AS G

HES A GUARD..

JEEZ PLEASE SHUT THAT NONSENSE DOWN..

Maybe he sucks in practice. This coaching staff wasnt here when he was drafted. Easy explanation could be their evaluation of him doesn’t match what the scouts thought ore draft.

Usually the simplest answer is the correct one. I think he probably just stinks as an NFL player. Maybe he's the Christian Hackenberg of the OL. Plenty of press clippings, some selective good college film, but if you looked at the full equation and ignored the hype, you'd see plenty of flaws. McGovern absolutely had some stinkers against good competition in college. Forget the couch jockey YouTube guys that watched 2 or 3 games to give you a rosey scouting report.

When Dallas thinks a guy off the street is better than the one sitting on ice in house, it speaks volumes. If he was a 6th round pick that year he'd likely be cut. I guess they are just hoping that the light comes on before his rookie deal has expired.
