Earlier today i listened to a former cowboys WR speaking on this topic and he said halftime adjustments 100% are a thing.

Yes and No. adjustments are made throughout the game. That’s why you have guys on both sides of the ball writing when a call is made. That’s reviewed throughout the game and on each drive.

At halftime they may take a “few” minutes to outline a tweak. But those tweaks are based off info they obtained during the game.

I don’t know past high school, but our 2nd half adjustments happened during the week, otherwise known as plan B :muttley:

At halftime, if what we were doing wasn’t working, we went to plan B.

I don't think that halftime adjustments are a major enterprise, they are typically just minor tweaks to correct one or two issues.

Most likely, halftime adjustments only effect a handful of players. They might change the coverage for a particular type of play. They might want to get the ball in the hands of a player more often. It's not a major overhaul.

However, if an opponent discovers a weakness and is consistently exposing it, something has to be done. You can't just go back out there without trying something different.

For all those who think halftime adjustments are the key, watch this. There’s barely time for fans to go to the concession stand or the bathroom at half. You think teams have time to install new game plans?

That is a good point…you spend all week game planning for a team and it doesn’t work but 15 minutes at half time does the trick lol.

Not a myth. Possibly overstated at times by fans/media/etc....but some coaches like Joe Gibbs have legendary reputations for making in-game/halftime adjustments. I've listened to countless former Washington players rave about Gibbs and this very thing.

Diggs was on Parsons podcast and said the 49ers made adjustments to counter our gameplan.

They went on to score 3 TDs in the 3rd quarter, so you tell me when the adjustments were made.
What adjustments did they exactly make? Looked like they just beat us until we couldn’t take it anymore.

I would hope a coach makes adjustments throughout the game. They have tablets, photographs, phones that connect to the booth upstairs, and unit meetings on the sideline. I have to imagine they talk about things in the locker room at halftime as well but a lot of players have other things going on like changing and adjusting equipment, getting reupped on meds/IVs, etc. so there probably isn't some grand speech in front of a blackboard the coach gives about the second half.

This coming from a fan whose team never makes any adjustments  49ers definitely made adjustments. Ask Diggs!! So much for trivia....

I'm in the middle of this debate. I think halftime adjustments are a real thing, but its different than what people make it out to be. It's typically more subtle adjustments than installing a completely new game plan. For these adjustments being made teams probably already had been working on them in practice all week as plan B/C. Its typically more smaller conversations along the lines of "when we run our base defense they are doubling player x up front when we thought they would double player y, so lets mix in some angle plays to free up player x for some 1v1 looks"

I think that’s what’s being contested here. You sort of just assume adjustments are made realistically how much cab you change in 15 minutes?
