Has anyone ever been to the Northern Mariana Islands? They lie somewhere near Guam and well North of Australia. I have an opportunity to go there soon for a few weeks.

A friend mentioned to me that a team of scientists are in need of a divemaster/instructor to help oversee the dive operations, mainly safety. They are going to be studying the grotto's(caverns) around Rota.

This job(more like a vacation to me) pays next to nothing except expenses, housing and airfare. Half of the time will be spent on a live-aboard around the island and the other half in small huts and such.

This sounds like something that I can not pass up! Looking for the positives and negatives for that part of the world

Definitely go! Had a friend who got tapped to be the 'Cave Expert' for a scientific crew working in Madagascar. They were hunting for fossil lemurs (and found them - giant fossil lemurs!) Really interesting experience for him, and his photos were amazing. So make sure you have the camera thing down. Not a lot of people will get the experience you will.

I know the Marianas area mostly from WW2 historical backgrounds (and my father flew planes that bombed Yap, Guam, Saipan, etc), but I hear that Rota is supposed to be the most beautiful of the islands there.
