...normally you have the combine freaks who blow up and their stock shoots thru the roof. I have a name for everyone to look for today and throughout the week.

Mike Kudla DE/LB Ohio State (6'3 265lbs.)

In reading up and hearing about Kudla, he defines the word freak. Coming out of HS he was already doing 30+ reps at 225lbs., which is the combine weight on the bench press. Kudla possessed a 37" inch vertical as well. Now after being so highly touted and injuries dragging him down, Kudla comes into the draft as mostly an unknown commodity. He did however have a nice senior campaign.

Kudla has went on to say that not only will he break the combine record at the bench press, but he will SHATTER it, almost guranteeing 50+ reps. Their was a rumor between OSU fans that he done 55 reps just last week in preparing for the combine.

Will Smith (DE for Saints) has said in the past, Kudla was timed in the 4.5 range for his 40 yard dash.

If Kudla is anywhere near the physical freak I have read about, then expect his stock to soar in a hurry.

Until he runs, he's listed as a 4.8 guy, and he has to do much better than that, and I think he will.

I found this one scouting report on him.

War Room analysis
Strengths: Is one of the strongest players in the '06 draft class. Gets under and stands up offensive tackles. Has good lower-body strength to hold his ground at the point of attack, and uses great hand placement and perfect technique. As a pass rusher, can overwhelm tackles with a bull rush and other power moves. Never gives up on a play.

Weaknesses: Lacks size and elite speed. Can't beat offensive tackles to the corner. Doesn't have the frame to get much bigger, making a switch to defensive tackle unlikely. Injuries have slowed him throughout his career.

Bottom line: Kudla plays with perfect technique, low pad level and can overpower larger opponents. However, he lacks the speed to consistently hit quarterbacks or chase down runners from behind. He is coachable and could earn a spot in a rotation as a run-stopping specialist

With that strength, maybe he can be a FB for us.

I told Stanley awhile back that I can see Kudla in the same mold as Vrabel from the Patriots.. I think he could make that similar transition to OLB.

Yea, we had this discussion. I think he's a decent pick in the mid to late third and could develop into a player with a Vrabel like impact in the right system but I still think he'll blow up the combine (I haven't checked numbers today) and he'll push up to late first early second and his production isn't worth that.

He put up 45 reps.. According to AJ Hawk, his personal best has been 52..

Also of note, DT-Brodrick Bunkley from Florida State put up 44 according to GBNreports.com

This guy is going to be a heck of a 43 3 technique DT.

I think he's a good football player and would love to have him.

I love Bunkley and think that we should take him at 18 or trade to 25th and take him.

He doesn't fit in the 3-4 at all though.

I remember this guy the first time when he was named Mike Mamula.
