as camp is getting closer (long wait) and the daily reports of who did what and how great they are.....

who are your offensive and defensive pet cats? long shots you like to see make the team and you think they are kind of special

mine
Offensive - WR Wilson
Defensive - Safety Kam Kelly

This is pretty much what you never asked for but I’d like to hear great things about Connor. He definitely shouldn’t be a long shot and I have high hopes for him. I’d love to hear how great he’s doing in camp. The strength of any offense, especially this offense, starts with the O line. Adding another young All Pro would make me giddy about how solid they will be for at least a few more years. I truly believe Dak’s future, and to an extent Zeke’s, rely heavily on this O line.

Defense: again, not a long shot but I love everything about Jaylon on and off the field. He has a long ways to go but he is quickly rising as one of my favorite Cowboys. I would love to see him reach his full potential. He seems like a genuinely good dude with a great work ethic now he just needs to take it to the next level on the field.

offense-OG Connor Williams...can't wait to watch it all unfold.

defense-DE Taco Charlton...I think it comes together for him...and this DE group will be fun to watch do battle.

Offense: Mike White
Not sure if they count as pet cats but I will keep a close eye on the TEs, all of them.

Defense: Dorance Armstrong
Keep forgetting about this guy

Too many to choose from. I am pretty tenacious about pouring over footage from TC and PS so I can watch them all. These are the players I am interested in seeing most.

Randy Gregory - complete question mark where he is at mentally and physically.
DLaw - can he stay healthy and maintain that level of play
Collins - can he get healthy and return to rookie form
Price - same as Collins but can he build on what he started last season
Taco - players generally improve the most between year 1 and 2. How does he do?
Ward - He is another unknown I look forward to learning about
LVE - can he be physical enough to play MIKE or even the first two downs.
Jaylon - he is in a position to improve off his first year playing and now that he no longer needs the AFO he seems primed for a huge jump.
Jones - seems to fit the bill as a CB in Richards system but he seemed to fit the bill at S before too. Huge xroads season for him
Chido - played well in December. primed to improve like the other second year players he is primed for a better year
Lewis - I don't think fans are going to be as forgiving for giving up big plays this year. Can he clean his game up and become consistent in year 2.
Woods - IMO he played the best of the secondary players drafted last year. Then again he was playing slot last year and will be returning to his college position. Intriguing.
Brown - was promoted to a bigger role last year and regressed with lost confidence. Interested to see where he is deployed and how he performs

Dak - Can he improve with Witten and Dez gone. He needs to for the team to succeed.
CRush - perhaps competing for a job. he clicked in the second halves of PS games. Can he do better against guys who will actually make NFL rosters?
White - is he as good as the 3rd round grade the cottage industry gave him.
Zeke - yeah he can run and block but I am going to be disappointed until they use him as a pass receiver.
Scarborough - does he really need to play ST given that both Olawale and Smith both do it well? Can he run well enough to make the roster?
Austin - are the Cowboys creative enough to tap the potential that saw him drafted in the top 10 or are they as inept as the curmudgeon crew claims they are.
Gathers - he improved markedly between his rookie year and the next. Can he improve his blocking in year 3 enough to merit the roster or even playing time?
Schultz - Stanford TE have a great track record and he was touted as one of the better blocking TE in the draft. Want to see what he has got.
Gallup - has a chance to be a dynamic receiver. Can he realize it.
Hurn - is the likely number 1. I have never seen him play.
Tyron - how is the back?
Williams - after Tyron he is the key to OL cohesiveness. Does he have the strength to play OG. If he does he could be Zack Martin good with as athletic as he is. Makes me want to do a cycle of P90x.
LC - improved as the season went along last year. Will that continue.

Most compelling position battles.

LB LVE vs Jaylon and playing time.
WR Gallup vs Hurns vs TWill vs Thompson
TE that battle is wide open. I'm not sure even Swaim is guaranteed a roster spot.
DE Taco vs Crawford vs Gregory vs Ealy vs Armstrong: who starts next to DLaw?
DT - does Price start like last year or do they switch Collins to 1 full time? Where does Ward fit in and what do they do with Irving when he comes back
CB - lots of prospects not a lot of certainty. Can Jones play NFL CB? Can Lewis and Chido win the starting spots? Who plays nickel?

Defense: Xavior Woods and Jihad Ward
Offense: Allen Hurns and Bo Scarborough

Hmmm, Pet Cat for me is someone who is a dark horse, long shot who might surprise. Using that definition:

Cedrick Wilson (pretty strong feeling)

Dorance Armstrong or March-Lillard (more just hunch based on not a lot)

If we talk Pet Cats as in lesser established players I find myself rooting for ....
Cooper Rush
Joe Looney
Kadeem Edwards
Tavon Austin
All the TE's (was particularly impressed by Schultz blocking in college)

Taco
Duke Thomas
Jameill Showers (always had a soft spot for him, seems to work really hard to contribute how ever asked)
Anyone who can play the 1T

That’s how I view it, though I’d add break-out candidates...and draft picks that might out-perform

Mine?
Gregory, Ward, Tapper, Gallup, Kelly
