I don't know if it's too much money involved or what the issue is but drivers these days just don't want to race each other, it's getting as bad as open wheel racing.

I think open wheel gets a bad rap as far there not being any passing or good racing. They obviously cant bang on each other like stock cars but there is a lot more passing and hard racing then they get credit for.

If you haven't watched it in a couple years give it another chance you might like it. Heres last weeks Indycar race in Brazil. Last corner on the last lap pass for the win. Danica's old car making it to victory lane.

Retired NASCAR driver Dick Trickle dies of apparent self-inflicted wound

(CNN) -- Richard "Dick" Trickle -- who parlayed a legendary reputation as a short-track driver into a full-time career on stock car racing's biggest stages in the 1990s -- died Thursday of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, a North Carolina sheriff's office said. He was 71.

A Lincoln County dispatcher received a call -- believed to have been placed by Trickle -- that "there would be a dead body and it would be his," that county's sheriff's office said in a news release. There was no answer when authorities tried to call the number back.

Emergency units went to Forest Lawn Cemetery in Boger City and found a body lying near Trickle's pickup truck.

Very sad, the guy had a rough time of it in his final years.

Not only did he have the greatest name of any athlete ever he has more Nascar wins by far than any driver including Petty. Nascar didn't keep records of their short track results but his wins were in the thousands.

The all star race is the most pointless race of the whole year. I really don't understand it.

This has been a dead thread. How about that backstretch being completely empty in the stands? Kind of depressing.

They closed it off and after this race they are tearing it down due to lack of fans and as part of the improvements to the track. Better for them to be gone than empty. As far as the race it was great that they let them race to the finish after the wreck on the last lap.Sucks that Jimmie (spelled like a girl) Johnson won.

Oh I didn't know that. At the 500 those stands were full weren't they?

I was at the race today. How could you not love Watkins Glen. Glad Kyle Busch won! Not as great a finish as last year but at least my driver got it done!

Why is Nascar dying a slow death, well besides Jimmie Johnson? Bristol, Kasey Kahne scared to bump Matt Kenseth out of the way at the end. pathetic. Too many nice drivers

Yeah that was pretty disappointing. Not only the 2nd place driver not doing everything it takes to get the win but Bristol is usually the track where drivers who have been dumped earlier in the season get a little payback.

I think drivers are way to comfortable now, the passion and win at all cost attitudes have been replaced with big paychecks and corporate correctness. There are very few drivers now who will risk everything to get the win and will just take what they get so they can get back on the jet and go to the next race.

and his team knows he won't do everything to win.

couldn't agree more on the comfortable take.

Kahne is a wuss. If it was Kyle Busch behind Kenseth it would have been a show!
