In order to sign Tank Johnson, the Cowboys had to make room for him on the active roster for one day before he would be put on the suspended list. That player was cornerback Nate Jones.

Jones played the first two games as a backup cornerback, but his release could mean the Cowboys plan on having Terence Newman back this week against Chicago. If Jones clears through waivers he could be brought back to the active roster.

Should Jones get claimed and Newman not play vs. the Bears, then Evan Oglesby would be the fourth cornerback, although Alan Ball and Quincy Butler are on the team's practice squad.

I guess TNew has to suck it up now. Although, if he wasn't going to play in the first big game of the season, when would he play?

i think it says that Newman must be close to returning, b/c cutting a guy who has been active this year instead of a guy who's been inactive so far (Joe Berger) doesn't really make sense otherwise, at least to me.

suck it up? before this season the guy's never missed a game in his career and played through a whole season on an injured knee and never once complained, even when fans were roasting him on a daily basis and calling him a bust

as for the game, yeah its big, but its just another 1 of the 16 games...it isnt a playoff game or the Super Bowl...if he misses it because they want to make sure he gets as close to 100% as possible, I'm fine with that...and frankly if we cant slow down the Bears offense with or without him, we have serious issues anyway
