Man it's quite an accomplishment to go TWO straight seasons WITHOUT a loss! Congratulations to them for winning their second straight title!

I flipped over to the game and UConn had 12 points. There was 18 minutes left in the second half. And they still won??

Women's basketball... *yawn*

How many layups can you miss in one game?

Coach John Wooden a few years ago called womens basketball the only basketball he watched anymore; said all the rest is just a track meet and showing off. So your assertion is pretty much worthless.

Must've gotten bored and wanted to make the game close to make them feel like they've fought hard for everything. The rest of womens bball outside of the Griner girl is a pool of ****. It also looks bad for a male coach to be the head of the most dominant team, he got a lot of questions asking why he didn't try to go to a "new level" which basically means why don't you go coach with the big boys instead of coaching women. I'd rather Summitt or some other female bball coach be the head of all that so it doesn't look like a male dominating the womens game.

Wooden must be getting senile. I'm sure he loves watching them miss layups.

And the ratings really back of Woodens assertion!

I don't know if Wooden is right about girls college basketball, but he is right about mens college basketball.

It is just like sandlot, .. and a lot of showing off.

Don't get me wrong, it is fun to watch, but the fundamentals of basketball are lacking, especially offensively.

I remember when UNC would pass and cut, and set screens continuously with such efficiency that sooner or later someone would have a wide open shot.

We don't see that any more.

The 3 pt shot sure changed the game as well.

All in all I still have a ton of respect for what the UConn girls have accomplished.

And Maya Moore is amazing.

well Peppie and company: Just saw an interview done by him only a year ago; and he is still pretty sharp and clearly knows more about REAL basketball then you do, OR EVER WILL.

As well he should. It was his career.

The fact of the matter is, womens basketball - "real basketball" or not - is about as exciting as looking at pictures of other peoples children.

Maybe for some, .. others enjoy it for what it is.

That's like comparing boys high school basketball with college or pro and not watching because it is not as good.

Don't compare girls basketball to anything and just enjoy the competition.

Coach Summitt has won the most women college championships with 8. Auriemma is still catching her. He may pass her up, but she's still one of the best coaches in the game.

I'm not a fan of women's basketball.

Then again, I'm not really a fan of college basketball at all. I prefer the NBA because it's the best of the best. "Passing and cutting" is about as exciting as watching grass grow in the desert. I want to see guys finish above the rim.

I like both NBA and college ball, but I do think that passing and cutting is much better than watching the various isolation plays that are run in the NBA.

There's nothing more boring than watching "All-Star" Player dribble to one side of the court and the other four players move to the other side of the court just to watch "All-Star" player jack up a shot.

The NBA isn't all iso though - plenty of teams like the Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, Atlanta Hawks, and even the Lakers play solid team basketball. In fact, iso plays aren't used as much as they used to be with the addition of zone defense to the NBA. And iso is run in every level of competition, including college (Heyward of Butler, Zoubek of Duke), high school, and even youth league basketball.

Let me clarify: I hate ISO plays on all levels... Standing around watching some yo-yo dribble forever to then jack up a low-percentage shot is not my idea of a good play.

But that said, passing and cutting is a fundamental part of the game and doesn't prevent above the rim play.

Above, in bold, is why I'm glad Allen Iverson is no longer at the forefront of kids' minds when they think of basketball, and why he's not in the league anymore. He was the worst thing to happen to basketball next to the And-1 Mixtape craze.

And you're right about passing and cutting - but I was referring to one of the posters that suggested he found the Princeton offense-style "pass and cut" offense to be the most exciting thing about basketball, and I hate the Princeton offense.

Ok... I see you're not a fan but you have to admit winning 78 straight games in a sport is impressive!
