NBC.com Has an Emmitt vs. Barry Poll

Why do Sanders backers never address the fact that he was benched in short-yardage and goal line situations, which are the most critical rushing attempts in the game? How can Sanders stake a claim for being better when his backup had to be called upon to take the most important runs of the game?

Also never addressed is the fact that Lomas Brown and Kevin Glover were two of the best offensive linemen in the NFL during Sanders' career, combining for 10 Pro Bowls. You'd think Sanders ran behind a college offensive line.

Good offense is sustaining drives and scoring touchdowns. Emmitt Smith contributed more to those goals than did Sanders. Sanders was without question a more exciting runner, but his boom-or-bust style of running often worked to kill Detroit possessions.

Smith was the better running back.

If you want to vote, here's your chance. :D

If you don't want to vote, what the hell is wrong with you?

If you want to vote for Barry, a toaster is a fun shower toy. :p:

Well, cover me in jelly and set it on light brown......

I had to vote Barry, although it kills me to vote against a great like Emmit.

It's a tough question: "Which running back is better?" I voted Barry just on have amazing agility and speed and more pure talent as a runner.

Oh, and I do believe the poll will let you vote again if you go back and clink the link. I went back a second time and voted for Emmit...you know, just to test the system and stuff.......;)

Edit: Yep, voted for Emmit two more times just to test the system, and it let me..........

You knows its a slow offseason when players that haven't played in a decade are the poll topic. :laugh2:

Smith was a better blocker, better receiver and better short yardage back.
Pure runner Sanders was the best i've ever seen, but best running back as in every aspect of the position he was not, that's hands down Smith out of those 2.

Smith might be the most underrated player of all time, people are always looking to make excuses for his success.

Why do Sanders backers not realize he to had pro bowlers on his line and that the line in Dallas was not in Florida blocking for 22 in high school or college as he was setting state and college records..I am so sick of this debate and the lack of knowledge that surround people that always bring up Dallas's superior line....

This should be interesting. A lot of people here are going to be shocked.

this is a dumb question, IMO. When you are talking about two of the top three or four to ever play the position you give both guys a nod & move on. Greatness = Greatness.

There are several ways of comparing running backs, some people simply vote for the one that is most entertaining to watch in the highlight reels, and Barry's talents certainly lend themselves to that comparison.

I always ask myself, which player would I rather have on my team at that position? Emmitt, and Barry doesn't even come close. Sure people will say Barry didn't have the benefit of the Cowboys OL, etc, etc, etc, but now you're being dragged off into a hypothetical that nobody can answer.

And then some people (a majority of people apparently) just vote for the guy that isn't a Cowboy!

Maybe because the poll question is not asking about offensive lines and goal line situations, its simply asking who is the better back of the two. I'll vote just like I did in the other thread, that based on pure talent and ability, Barry Sanders was the better running back. As of right now, 85.67% of voters agree with me. No need to get butt hurt because more people think Barry was better.

Now if you create a poll asking who would you rather have if you are building a team, I would take Emmitt.

There's more to playing the HB position then just running, name 1 thing besides those highlight reel runs that Sanders did better then Smith

Hooray. All you've done is shown you are susceptible to the ad populum fallacy.

I'll name two: Sanders made the Pro Bowl every year that he was in the NFL. Smith did not. Sanders rushed for 2,000 yards in a season. Smith did not.

So he was better at going to pro bowls?

I mean on the field since he was so superior to Smith surely there must have been more to his game then just those runs, so again name 1 thing besides those runs (something Smith did quite well) that Sanders did better then Smith

May I ask why you would take Emmitt over Barry, when building a team, when you have already admitted that Barry was the better RB?
