Study shows Cowboys have the best fans in the NFL

They haven’t had much in the way of playoff success to cheer for the last few decades, but that hasn’t stopped Cowboys fans from being a passionate, if not always sane lot.

And according to one study, they’re the best in the league.

Via the Dallas Morning News, Emory Sports Marketing Analytics’ 2015 NFL fan equity rankings put Dallas fans at the top of the heap.

“We focused on using hard data to determine which NFL team had the most avid, engaged, passionate and supportive fans, the website’s Manish Tripathi said. “By hard data we mean data on actual fan behavior. In particular, we are focused on market outcomes like attendance, prices or revenues.

“We use fifteen years of data on NFL team performance, ticket prices, market populations, median incomes, won-loss records and multiple other factors. We create statistical models of box office revenue, and then see which teams over- and under- perform the model’s predictions.”

***snip***

Are they right?

Having been to a lot of stadiums around the country and observing fans of other teams, I can say w/o a doubt the Cowboys fans I have met and observed are by far the classiest fans in all of sports. Are they the best? Absolutely. There's just something different about Cowboys fans. They're proud, but not obnoxious like NY fans, thats football baseball and hockey fans from NY, or NE for that matter.

When I go to games at Jerry World I always get disappointed in our fans. Nobody likes to cheer and it frustrates me. I had fans ask me to stop yelling because I am too loud. Or asked me to sit down. If our fans knew how and when to cheer I would say they are the best but we have a stadium that is GIGANTIC and can fit a ton of people in it and we still cannot get loud. And if we do get loud its when we are on offense. VERY FRUSTRATING! But in terms of sticking with our team over this LONG DROUGHT it definitely put Cowboy fans in the conversation for the best fans out there. I mean how can this team be this popular when they have been TERRIBLE for years.

This is overstated about Cowboys fans. I've been to games that were absolutely rocking. I do get frustrated by those games that have a lot of opposing fans, but being a top-level team is curbing much of that lately.

I, too, get frustrated by some fans who just scream the whole game. Dude, it gets old. And sit down for crying out loud. It's 2nd and 8 at the 22 in the first quarter. We've got a LONG way to go. Save it for when it matters. Use that seat you paid for. The time to get really loud and on your feet will happen multiple times today. Let's pace ourselves, eh?

And enough with the f-bombs and 12 beers. Fortunately, I'm a season-ticket holder, and I can get you thrown out with a nod and a point, and if I have my kid with me, you're *****' gone, buddy. Fortunately, the Cowboys Stadium crowd is generally much more polished than the knuckle-draggers from the blue north, but the trend is going the wrong direction year by year. We're paying dearly for the lack of proper parenting the past few decades.

There's a difference between being involved and raucous in the spirit of the game, and being an obnoxious tool lacking respect for the people around them.

Cowboys fans outside of Dallas seem to show a lot more passion at games than Cowboys fans in Dallas. This fact may be part of the reason why the Cowboys were 8-0 at home and 4-4 on the road.

Uh, you got it backwards, but that had zero to do with anything.

This team functions well in harsh environments because it runs the ball well and has an elite quarterback. But the home record was TOTALLY because Romo was not healthy for San Francisco, Arizona, Philadelphia, and Washington. (Murray's fumbles didn't help.)

Best fans ever.

We picked our team, most of us since early childhood. Not merely by geographic selection but by the magic of The Star.

And we ride with these Cowboys through the sunrises and the sunsets.

Most ethnically diverse fans - Black, White, Mexican, heck throughout the world!

Huh. That's a good point. Didn't think of each one until you pointed it out. :omg:

I think you meant 8-0 on the road and 4-4 at home.

But by the measure used in this study, the Cowboys’ fans are the best, followed by the Patriots, Giants, Ravens, and Jets.

I'm willing to bet that Philly, Washington, & Pittsburgh follow shortly after these top 5. The north east is obsessed with football.
