NBC wins on
Cowboys-Giants game

Averages 6.2 in 18-49s, its rating highest in weeks

The NFC East showdown between the victorious Dallas Cowboys and the division-leading New York Giants lifted NBC to its best Sunday in months last night.

The network averaged a 6.2 adults 18-49 rating and 15 share, according to Nielsen overnights, easily outpacing second-place CBS at 4.9/12.

As a reminder, ratings for “Sunday Night Football” and other live sporting events are approximate as fast nationals measure timeslot and not actual program data. But the indication is that NBC will score a huge victory on the night when final numbers are released, with “SNF” dominating its nearly three hours of primetime.

The game peaked with a 7.7 rating at 9 p.m., pacing well ahead of the second-place “Survivor: Gabon” finale at a 4.5 on CBS.

“SNF” will likely be the highest-rated show on any network for the week.

Meanwhile, the two-hour “Survivor” season-ender averaged a 4.5 from 8 to 10 p.m., just above the 4.4 for last spring’s finale, the lowest rating in franchise history. Still, because of unusual running times due to the 7 p.m. football overrun on CBS, “Survivor’s” rating may adjust when final numbers come out tomorrow.

As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Twenty-eight percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.

ABC placed third for the evening at 2.3/6, Fox fourth at 2.1/5, Univision fifth at 1.1/3 and CW sixth at 0.4/1.

At 7 p.m. CBS led with a 6.3 for NFL overrun and the start of “60 Minutes,” followed by NBC with a 3.1 for “Football Night in America.” ABC was third with a 2.0 for “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” Fox fourth with a 1.6 for “King of the Hill” repeats, Univision fifth with a 0.9 for the first hour of “Show de los Sueños: Los Reyes de el Show” and CW sixth with a 0.3 for a “Jericho” rerun.

NBC took the lead at 8 p.m. with a 6.4 for NFL pregame and the start of “SNF,” while CBS slipped to second with a 4.4 for the end of “60 Minutes” and start of “Survivor.” ABC was third with a 2.4 for the first half of the movie “The Santa Clause,” Fox fourth with a 2.3 for repeats of “The Simpsons” and “King of the Hill,” Univision fifth with a 1.1 for more “Sueños” and CW sixth with a 0.4 for the first hour of the movie “Spaceballs.”

At 9 p.m. NBC led again with a 7.7 for football, with CBS second with a 4.5 for more “Survivor.” ABC was third with a 3.0 for the second half of “Clause,” Fox fourth with a 2.4 for repeats of “Family Guy” and “American Dad,” Univision fifth with a 1.3 for more “Sueños” and CW sixth with a 0.4 for the second hour of “Spaceballs.”

NBC was first again at 10 p.m. with a 7.4 for football, followed by CBS with a 4.3 for the end of “Survivor” and start of the “Survivor” reunion show. ABC was third with a 1.8 for a repeat of “Desperate Housewives” and Univision fourth with a 1.2 for the end of “Sueños” and “Hora Pico.”

NBC also finished first for the night among households with a 10.1 average overnight rating and a 16 share. CBS was second at 9.6/15, ABC third at 4.6/7, Fox fourth at 2.9/5, Univision fifth at 1.6/3 and CW sixth at 0.7/1.
