"You're gonna have to learn your clichés. You're gonna have to study them, you're gonna have to know them. They're your friends. Write this down: 'We gotta play it one day at a time.'"
You remember the scene in "Bull Durham" Crash Davis talks to a young Ebby Calvin LaLoosh about his interviews.
Some might think Romo needs a Crash Davis, with a good interview answer Romo will have all of Dallas-Fort Worth in love with him, eating out of his hand even.
All Cowboys fans want to hear a passionate quarterback who sounds like a leader.
Romo appeared on Sunday Sit Down with Michael Irvin, and when asked what it would take for the Cowboys to win a Super Bowl, his answer:
Is this the answer we want from the leader of America's Team? Many Cowboys fans would say they don't want to hear that. We also don't want to hear anything like the now famous quote from after the Philly loss in 2008:
They want to hear the clichés. They want to hear him say, "We have to play at our best every game." Or better yet, edit the response, leave off, "I don't know" and start with, "It feels like the commitment level is there…"
Or maybe the media needs to realize Romo is the real deal and we have to get used to the fact that he answers honestly, he doesn't rehearse, he says what he's thinking, and maybe that's OK.

Romo appeared on Sunday Sit Down with Michael Irvin, and when asked what it would take for the Cowboys to win a Super Bowl, his answer:
"I don't know. I've never won a Super Bowl. But I do know it feels like the commitment level is there. People support each other. When times get tough, they don't turn and point fingers. Everyone asks themselves, 'How can we do better individually to help the team do better and help turn it around?' That approach has got to be the right way. It just feels like it is."
Some folks are stuck on that first part of that answer "I don't know. I've never won a Super Bowl."Is this the answer we want from the leader of America's Team? Many Cowboys fans would say they don't want to hear that. We also don't want to hear anything like the now famous quote from after the Philly loss in 2008:
"I’ve had a lot worse things happen to me than a loss in a sporting event, that’s for sure. If this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, then I’ll have lived a pretty good life."
In the Irvin interview, Romo seems to understand that he's under scrutiny on and off the field so why not defuse some of that by having better answer? The media will dissect everything you say, don't give them anything. They want to hear the clichés. They want to hear him say, "We have to play at our best every game." Or better yet, edit the response, leave off, "I don't know" and start with, "It feels like the commitment level is there…"
