I'm on holiday in Detroit attending the Final Four this weekend. When I was working for United Press International in the early 1980s, I was part of the wire service's Final Four coverage team. This is Villanova's first trip to the Final four in 24 years. I covered the Wildcats' last appearance in 1985, one of the most amazing college basketball games I've ever seen. The Wildcats shot 75 percent from the field in Lexington, Ky., that night in toppling a heavily-favored Georgetown team with Patrick Ewing, 66-64.
In honor of the Final Four, here's a list of the top prospects from each of those four schools in the NFL draft this month:
CONNECTICUT: RB Donald Brown. NCAA's leading rusher with 2,083 yards. Projection: Rounds 1-2.
MICHIGAN STATE: RB Javon Ringer. The NCAA's leading scorer with 22 touchdowns. Projection: Rounds 3-4.
NORTH CAROLINA: WR Hakeem Nicks. The school's all-time leading receiver with 181 catches. Projection: Rounds 1-2.
VILLANOVA: DE Greg Miller. An FCS All-America selection with a team-leading 13 tackles for losses and a team runnerup 5 1/2 sacks. Projection: Round 7, FA.
