With the first preseason game in the books, the Dallas Cowboys got a long look at multiple young players. These are the scouting reports that emerged after digging into the game tape:

• The player most Cowboys fans were tuned into see on Sunday night was center Travis Frederick, Dallas’ first-round pick out of Wisconsin. And he certainly impressed in his first game in the NFL. Frederick, who most believed isn't a good fit in a zone-blocking offense, did an excellent job of getting to the second level of the Miami Dolphins defenders. Frederick is so strong that once he gets his hands on a defender, it’s all over. Frederick needs to work on staying on his feet, but without a doubt, he is your starting center for the Cowboys in 2013.

• The MVP of the night was defensive end George Selvie. Selvie who recorded two sacks, flashed multiple times during the game on Sunday night. Consistency and his ability to stop the run are the only things holding him back from cracking the defensive line rotation in 2013.

• Every year, there is a player who drastically improves during the offseason out of nowhere. This year, that player is running back Lance Dunbar. Dunbar has had a fantastic training camp and that translated into a very productive preseason game as the starter. Make no mistake about it, the undrafted back from North Texas is the clear No. 2 back on this team entering the year. I am expecting big things from Dunbar in 2013.

good take on Dunbar. Last year, he looked really fast, but a little overmatched. I know he was going against some backups against MIA, but he looked a lot more like he belonged than he did last season.

I think the jury is still very much out on Dunbar. I wanna wait till the end of TC/preseason before handing him the #2 spot. Don't get me wrong, he is much improved and I like the kid. But let's not count out Randle. I think he could take the backup RB spot just as easily.
