Need for speed!

Looking at the skilled positional players and their possible fits with the Cowboys, this roster really lacks high-end speed:

-Corner-both Diggs/Bland are big corners that lack top end speed for the position. Will Johnson is in the same mold, but Barron could complement them better to handle elite speed and quickness.

-Wide Receiver-receiving group has a ton of "big" receivers, but outside of Turpin lack a receiver who can consistently stretch the field, put fear into a defense in man situations. Tolbert, Mingo, Flournoy are all X type of receivers. Lamb is more of a big slot. T-Mac is another big x receiver, Golden/Burden offer a different skillset.

-Running Back-Cowboys have always have had that change of pace, homerun type of back to complement a workhorse type of back. Most recently they had Pollard, but Felix Jones/Randle both had success in that role. Don't think the signings of Williams/Sanders are long-term fits by any means, but pairing an every down back with a homerun type is feasible in this year's class. Henderson is one that many mention, Tuten as well, but Brashard Smith sounds like a Pollard clone. Former receiver with elite speed.

I suspect Turpin will have an expanded role in this year's offense. Just a hunch. He did very well with the reps he got last year and could very well significantly increase his production.

Also, if I recall, Smith had a pretty good Senior Bowl.

I am afraid the Cowboys will turn into the Miami Dolphins. Elam ran a 4.3 and Turpin is fast as well. We need the best football players inside the trenches.

I still don't like the receiver class. Both Tet and Golden are late day one guys for me. I really like Jaylin Noel as a day two speed guy. He had a great combine running a 4.39 and topping the WR class in vertical, broad jump, and bench with 23 reps. He's got the production to match but has been almost exclusively a slot guy. Isiah Bond would be my #2 and I think he'll be a better receiver than Golden.

At running back I like Bhayshul Tuten. Short, dense, was top of the combine in the 40 at 4.32, 10 split, vertical, and had an explosive 10'10" broad as well. DJ Giddens would be my #2 as he's an explosive athlete.

WRT our corners, I think we're just fine on speed. DQ ran one of the NFL's most man-heavy defenses, and both Bland and Diggs excelled there. They're also great fits for a zone defense because of their top-notch ball skills. I frankly think that both are just all-around good football players when they're healthy.

WRT our offense, we just need any skill player anywhere who can make a defense pay for doubling CeeDee.

If I'm a DC, and doubling CeeDee forces me to play single coverage against Tolbert, Mingo, and Ferguson, I'm taking that bet all month. I'd trust any league-average CB2 or CB3 to erase those wideouts. And if shading DBs towards CeeDee means that I have to leave a light box against Miles Sanders, I'm fine taking that bet too. He'll get 4 or 5 yards if the Cowboys block their run play up well, but if one of my defenders blows a contain or misses a tackle, Sanders isn't going to gash me for 30.

DCs are more than happy to force the Cowboys into playing checkdown football, and either betting that drops and penalties will kill some drives for them, or betting that their offense will eventually bury Dallas in a negative game script that they can't come back from. On the Cowboys' end, what we need is any player who can help break that defensive formula.

Interesting. I guess it could be that he was too far down the depth chart to have much production in Philthy. Happens.

He was decent for the Colts. I suspect it may be another under-the-radar signing. At the very least, he brings competition.




Personally, I hope Jalen Cropper can make the 53. He was a beast in camp.

That fumble cost him a couple million. I still think he's a player though.
