These questions are for FANS w/ DirectTV LIVING IN SOUTHEAST TEXAS. I am in Beaumont and considering getting DirectTV HD. I don't want to fork over $250.00 for Sunday Ticket because I really only care about the Cowboys, and TW Cable shows the games on the Fox affiliate in Lake Charles, LA. My question is, can you pick up the Fox station w/ the set-top antenna that you use to get the Beaumont stations (e.g. KBTV, KBMT, etc.)?

The reason I want to get DirectTV is to get the games in HD, but the guy at Best Buy says KUIL (Lake Charles) doesn't xmit in HD, which is a bummer, but it would be even worse to not get the games at all. I'm assuming that someday they will xmit in HD and that problem will go away.

Also, how often do you lose your picture due to weather? And for how long? Of course the cable doesn't go out unless the cable is cut by someone digging in the wrong place.

Any information you can pass along will help me decide wether or not to shell out $130/mo for the service (and boxes) and $$$ for a new TV...

All I can tell you is that it has to rain pretty hard to lose reception but it doesn't usually last for very long...

DirecTV is evil. Had the service for 8 years, whereupon, my girlfriend forgot to pay the bill one month and they temporarily dc our service. No phone calls, no written notice, just cut off service. Again after many yrs of excellent pymt history,loyalty...switched to Dish network and couldn't be happier with the upgrade in technology and customer service. I even splurged for the everything pack or whatever they call it. I have more tv than I could ever watch.

Even if you got the ticket you'd have to watch the game on your local channel. If a game is shown locally it's blacked out on the ticket channel. That's one of the reasons I switched.

HD games aren't blacked out on the ticket.

Bingo - noticed that as well - HD DTV games are not blacked out.

But regular games are.

If you are in Dallas range locally, you can get all Dallas games free with rabbit ears in HDTV - Well geographically linited. Here i get all locals in Boston free. But pay to get the Dallas coverage each week, guaranteed.

Rain was an issue pre the HD receiver, have never lost signal since upgrade.
