If Cowboys are going to survive a brutal, road game filled December of their schedule, it's going to take a healthy Murray to pound the rock.

Dec 4 @ Chicago
Dec 14 @Philly
Dec 28 @ Washington

Nobody is going to want to tackle Murray in 20 degree weather. A dominant run game in the cold can just be what carries Dallas over the last month of the season.

You know...I really like Demarco Murray. I always have, and he's playing great. Last night, for instance, he was slowing down and setting up blocks past the LoS, then bursting to daylight...it was really impressive.

That said, other than his pass blocking, which is very, very good, I still think several backs can be very successful running behind this OL right now. I'd be tempted to just use the guy as much as we possibly can this season if he's keeping us in position to win, and develop the other backs behind him. I still don't want to shell out big money for an older RB at the end of the season, and I don't think there's any way he's not out of our price range if that's the case.

My inclination would be to ride the guy as hard as we can and sort it out later if/when he gets hurt. I know you're not necessarily saying to conserve Murray, OP, but I think that's the obvious concern when we speculate as to how much we're going to need him in December. I agree, though, that a good running game is a nice benefit to have in the NFCE when the weather starts getting cold and it's harder and harder to pass the ball effectively.
