Feds: Home of Bengals' Simpson a pot distribution center

Police said a package containing 2 1/2 pounds of marijuana was delivered from Eureka, Calif., to the suburban Kentucky home of Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jerome Simpson on Tuesday, where authorities say they conducted a search and found six more pounds of marijuana inside.

Michelle Gregory, spokeswoman for the California Department of Justice, confirmed to the Cincinnati Enquirer a report published by CaliforniaWatch.org, a group of investigative journalists, on Wednesday night, which detailed the operation. It was initiated by a special marijuana task force after agents discovered a suspicious package at a commercial sorting facility in Sacramento.

Simpson's teammate, offensive tackle Anthony Collins, was also present when a woman, identified as Aleen Smith, 27, accepted the package on Tuesday. All three were questioned at the residence, but no arrests were made at the time

Okay, so. Eight and a half pounds of marijuana are found in total. Someone took physical possession of two and a half pounds of it. Six other pounds where found in the residence and yet no arrests are made?

Gotta love how celebrities get a way with ****. If it were anyone else with eight pounds of marijuana, they would have been arrested not only for possession, but for "possession with intent to distribute" which is a major felony that can carry many years in prison.

Nate Newton scoffs at such a small amount of marijuana.

heh, didn't he get busted with like 300lbs plus? :laugh2:

Maybe the Bengals need to move from Cincinnati. What is it with that city that players get into trouble. Just driving through the state, I can see how Ohio is a downright depressing place to live.

Then, again, it is better than Detroit. I think.:)

I am not so sure about that anymore. Everytime I read a news article about some missing person or murder or snatched kid, it's from Ohio.

It's uncanny how much crime is in Ohio.

Not a place I would ever want to live w/ my family. Crazy nuts live in Ohio.

You were the first to clue us in on how it is in Ohio. ;) :D

I find it disturbing and hilarious when I hear about athletes getting involved in the drug game.

These athletes are making far more money cleanly by playing sports than selling dope. These guys are making minimum of 400K a year. That's so much more than they would dilly-dallying in the drug game.

I really think it's just part of wanting to be seen as somebody in that culture.

I can almost understand former athletes down on their luck, but not current active athletes.

Just pure stupidity.

What is interesting is that the package come from hometown of current Bengal Rey Maualuga and former Bengal WR Maurice Purify. Eureka is at the northern tip of a 150 or so mile stretch that is pretty much the weed capital of the US

A 2.5-pound shipment of marijuana was seized at the home of Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jerome Simpson(notes) on Wednesday.

Bengals tackle Anthony Collins(notes) was with Simpson at the Crestview Hills, Ky., house when police confiscated the package. A spokeswoman for the California Department of Justice said police tracked the shipment from California after a two-day investigation.

A woman, Aleen Smith, signed for the package before police swooped in. Simpson gave consent for authorities to search his home, where they found six additional pounds of marijuana and paraphernalia including "packaging materials, scales and smoking devices."

Simpson and Collins were detained but not arrested. The case will be addressed by the Kenton County (Ky.) Prosecutor's Office on Thursday....
