I want to know about this Sam Hurd kid. Apparently, we signed him to a 3 year deal as an undrafted rookie. Never heard of undrafted rookies signing 3 year contracts, but we gotta like this kid if we did such. Anyone have any scouting reports on this kid. Nice size, but no real background info on him.

I never seen him play, however, I read a couple of stories where the writers thought he would be drafted in the 5/6 rds and he slipped out.....

Position: WR Number: 84
School: Northern Illinois Height: 6'2
Status: Senior Weight: 187

This is a player at the wide receiver position that catches everything thrown his way
He has an excellent pair of hands, along with good eye-hand coordination, and the concentration on catching the ball I have not seen in some time, he really takes pride in catching everything thrown his way, who runs crisp precise route patterns
He is not a overwhelming athletic presence on the field, but he has good height, better than average athlete, and has the knack for finding open spaces in a defense for his quarterback to find him
He is a receiver that may not be great at any one thing but has the overall skill set to become a outstanding second receiver on the next level
I am anxious to see more evaluation time on this player, I like his all out approach to the game

Sam Hurd Grade: 3.14
Position: WR
Class: Sr
School: N Illinois
Conference: Mid-American
Ht., Wt.: 6-3, 195
40 Time: 4.61
Grading System

BIO: Three-year starter and All-Conference selection as a senior after leading the team with career numbers of 65/1,074/13.

POSITIVES: Reliable wideout who consistently comes up with the important reception. Finds the open spot on the field or sneaks behind the defense. Boxes out opponents with his frame, extends to pull the ball from the air and exposes himself to the big hit in order to make the reception. Displays solid eye/hand coordination and outstanding timing. Gives effort blocking and gets results.

NEGATIVES: Slow releasing off the line, cannot run to the deep ball and lacks a second gear. Must improve his route-running skills.

ANALYSIS: A big-play receiver on the college level, Hurd is one of the more underrated wideouts in the draft. Lacks classic size/speed numbers yet should have no problem making a roster in the NFL.

Me too, in fact I was going to post that he sounds like a Keyshawn wannabe. then I noticed you guys' posts. Hopefully he might pan out into a player.

It's not that rare. Out of the 17 UDFAs we signed last year, 11 of them signed three-year contracts. League-wide, 38 percent of UDFAs last season signed a three-year contract.

Also, Hurd's signing bonus was only $10,000. The other wide receiver we signed, Miles Austin, got a three-year deal with a $16,400 signing bonus.

Thanks, didn't know this.

or he could be Rashawn Woods...similar scouting report....eerily similar

http://football.about.com/cs/playerprofiles/p/rashaunwoods.htm

Positives: Probably the most polished receiver in the draft. He isn't the most athletic of this year's group, but he does have good technique, body control and ball skills. He runs good, precise routes, and gets out of his breaks quickly. He also has great hands, and can be physical when needed. Most importantly, the guy catches just about everything thrown in his vacinity. He adjusts well to the ball and rarely drops a pass.

Negatives: Woods lacks great top-end speed and may have trouble getting separation in the NFL. He's also a little lighter than most teams would like for a guy without blazing speed and he lacks the upside of other first-round prospects.

He's also a lot lighter than Keyshaun, which probably means that he won't be able push around defenders like Keyshaun did at the next level.

Did Austin receive the biggest signing bonus given to a UDFA by Dallas this off-season?

the whole time I was reading his write up I was thinking keyshawn
Anyone remember a receiver we had long ago named Mike Renfro? He was not really big and not fast but he had good hands and had that knack for finding the holes in the defense. From what I read about this Hurd kid he sounds like the same type of receiver. A possession receiver who is not a huge physical presence like Keyshawn but produced much the same results.
