I always wanted to know exactly how player contracts are done for our players. For example, player has been good for us, and is nearing the end of his current deal. What happens next? I'm assuming you assess the players at his position, and determine your market value. Does the player want/need to be the highest paid at his position? Example RT is an upcoming free agent, market value for RT's are 16 million. What exactly happens next, and why does it take so long to actually put together a deal when all you have to do is make the market value over 16million (16.5), shouldn't that make said player happy? Please give your thoughts.....

How much signing bonus?
That's where it can get sticky.
How longs the contract?

I wish people would break that part down more, as it's said this is the REAL actual amount players get paid (guarantees)

I'll let the FO and agents worry about that. I'd rather just enjoy reports from practice, opponent breakdowns, injury reports and actual games.
Please give me your thoughts......lol

Only QBs need to be paid the highest, or close to top market value at their position coming off their rookie deal if the team that drafted them wants to extend them. This is not the case at other positions unless you are among the best players at that position. For example, Gallup did not get a top market value contract. Because he's not a top end WR. Lamb most likely will.

It all starts with the agent game.

The better agents let the team come to them to show interest and no one in the business is more aware of every player coming up, and the proposed value, than these agents. They are very aware of what other options the team might have. And they understand their job very well, push the position values up beginning with QB. They are responsible for these QB contracts being so large because they know they hold the upper hand in any stare down.

I got a kick out of all the love for BAL holding the line against Jackson. Did these people really think they were going to trade him or let him walk?

People also thought Mahomes would set the ceiling being the best QB. Being the best has nothing to do with it, being critical to the team does.

The job of the agents is to make the job of the GM's, managing the cap, the most difficult one they can. It is the GreedFest all the way around.
