Neil Young vs Lynyrd Skynyrd

Agreed....but the problem is that the band itself didn't put any good music down after the crash.

True many moved on because they did not feel right about carry on the band. Later they did reunite and pretty much played the old music which was more about honoring those who did not make it.

I like Skynard, but Neil Young here.

Neil Young is really just a tremendous musician. Great guitar player, harmonica, piano. Great voice. Such a thoughtful song writer who brilliantly blended in lyrics and melody.

Nothing against Skynard, great band. But I'd be hard pressed to find somebody better and more talented than Neil Young.

One thing about Skynyrd is after the crash some of the surviving members put some good music down

One of my favorites was Rickey Medlocke and his band Blackfoot

If i may correct you sir to my recollection no surviving members of Skynyrd formed or joined Blackfoot.
Ricky Medlocke actually sung/played drums for Skynard but left in 70/71 to reform blackfoot but for the most part he wasnt considered a original member of skynyrd

Neil Young is one of those guys who's songs would be great, if someone else was singing and playing them. Sloppiest guitarist I've ever heard and his voice is no prize either. I do listen and like his songs, I just wonder when someone with greater ability is going to cover them and do them justice.

I'll take Skynyrd though.

I kinda agree here, Neil Young has had length and breadth by far. He's done great work in all sorts of formats, and written good songs forever.

Skynrd was more concentrated, more of a one trick pony (but what a trick). They are probably not helped (for me) in that I am more of an Allman Bros fan in that particular style.

Have to go with Skynyrd on this one.

I know it's a stretch, but since this is a Cowboy's board perhaps there should be a thread on Free Bird vs. Free Reign. Personally, I think Skynyrd are much better musicians and may be better pass protectors.
