One is a top 10 lock and the other is moving up the draft boards.
How much talent gap do you see between them?

Nelson is my wet dream pick in this draft because he's an instant plug and play starter that will dominate but since there's a zero chance we get him I have to seriously look at Hernandez. He is getting rave reviews at the Senior Bowl. The offensive line is this teams biggest identity and keeping it that way is very important.

Bonus question.
How do you think Conner Williams would be if moved to the guard position?

Yup Nelson would be my choice but he will never get to our pick. I have read that he is better than Martin and is basically Martin on steroids.

that might be an exaggeration. Remember that Martin was a multi year starter at LT and Nelson has been a guard.

Martin is probably the best guard in the NFL; at least in the discussion among the top 3. He would make a good to very good RT I think; and would be OK at LT but that is all.

Nelson has specialized at Guard and from that point of view might be more advanced as a guard then Martin was coming in; but Martin is the better athlete.

Nelson has all pro potential and Hernandez could win a few pro bowl potential.

Considering you can probably get Hernandez about 30+ pick later I think he provides more value.

I don't believe that Hernandez is a firm 2nd round type. He could go in the first.

In recent years, lesser prospects like Joshua Garnett and Laken Tomlinson have gone in the late first.

...Reports from the Senior Bowl indicate that the idea is already on the team’s mind. According to research started by our own Michael Sisemore, the team had one-on-one interviews with two guard candidates, Isaiah Wynn of Georgia and Will Hernandez out of UTEP. And those may be very good names to keep an eye on. Wynn of course comes from a well-known major program, but Hernandez was one of the surprises at the Senior Bowl.

- Any conversation about the best non-QB prospects in Mobile should include #UTEP OG Will Hernandez and #Georgia OG Isaiah Wynn. They win in different ways, but both have been very consistent and back up the tape. Future NFL starters.

Will Hernandez and Alex Cappa were probably the two best interior OL this week. Both will go earlier than most anticipate. https://t.co/m3n5cMH23Z

Alex Cappa is another good option, but right now the thinking is that he will likely be gone before Dallas goes on the clock at 19 overall. But their is a good chance that Wynn or Hernandez may be available. And there are also the underclassmen who are declaring for the draft and weren’t eligible to be in Mobile, as well as some highly regarded tackles that may be good candidates to switch to guard (which is the case with Wynn). That worked out pretty well for the Cowboys with Martin, after all.

There are certainly other positions that would make sense for Dallas in the first round, including wide receiver (like James Washington, mentioned above), defensive line, linebacker, and the secondary. A lot will depend on both what the Cowboys do with their own free agents and of course how the draft plays out. But the key to their identity, particularly on offense, is the O line. Getting a top talent for the LG position would even help if there are any future injury problems for Smith, making it a little easier to get by with the swing tackle if that unwanted situation crops up again...

I would be on board with drafting one of these guards...and plugging them right in at left guard. As many draft picks this season, I would consider moving up for one.

Cooper is injured and operated on now...with a 4 month lag before starting workouts...relegate him to the game day roster.

I think Hernandez could be a 1st round pick, 1st day starter and between TFredrick & TSmith, that left side could absolutely dominate defenses..

All they did at UTEP was run the ball. His specialty is run blocking. If Dallas is determined to be a run-oriented offense, then it's tough to pass on Hernandez because after the Senior Bowl practices and with what he does at the Combine, I doubt he's there at 50.

I think he's better at OG coming out of college than La'el Collins was. I'm gonna say it, not as a UTEP alum/homer, but as a football fan... Hernandez could be a Larry Allen type of guy for Dallas: a guy that is reliable. A guy that stays healthy, a guy that has a long career, a guy that goes out there and works his butt off every day.

Being on a winless team NEVER got him down. He went out and worked just as hard in game 12 as game 1. Right attitude, physical... IMO, he's can't-miss.

If I had to pick 1...Quenton Nelson.I think he is the safest pick in Rd 1.
Hernandez is a road-grater and now looks to be a late 1.
Nelson,Hernandez,Wynn and Price are slam dunks in my opinion.

Hernandez is a mauler and will be a day 1 stud run blocker. He may struggle a bit with quicker pass rushers.
Nelson is a complete OL who could plug and play at 3 or 4 positions. He's essentially another Zack Martin.
Connor Williams has elite potential but he's no where near as good as the other 2 and lacks strength in all areas. At OG he would really struggle versus bull rush types IMHO.
Right now Connor Williams best position may well be OC.
BUT he has the feet to play LT if he gets MUCH stronger and cleans up his technique.

if we see guys like Ridley,Edmunds and Hurst go off the board...and no Nelson or Roquon either....I could live with a Connor Williams or Orlando Brown at OT....in that scenario they probably move down.
But in a wash-out scenario....I think a OT at 19 is strong possibility.

Nelson is the best OLineman in this draft, and Hernandez and him share a lot of similarities. They both are mean maulers in the run game. Nelson has the edge on pass pro but Hernandez is very quick footed for his size. The smaller school hurts Hernandez's stock IMO but he dominated at that level. If i had to pick between them it'd be Nelson.

Williams at OG it very intriguing to me. I love his athleticism and quick feet. I see some nastiness in his game too. I think he will have to get stronger at the next level but he will. If you could promise me I'm getting the 2016 version of Williams and not 2017 than I'm all for drafting him.

After watching todays game...it's not even close. Nelson hands down....is better. I get people like maulers...And Hernandez is a mauler. But Nelson is special. 10 year stud....plug and play. Probably 8-10 pro bowls.

That's exactly why Nelson is my favorite player in this draft.
