I don't typically like to do mock drafts but with the slow off-season I figured I might as well. So lets work out the scenario for this draft. A big run of tackles started out the draft and followed its way all the way to our pick leaving us no solid tackle to draft. Mike Iupati, everyones pet cat moves up the boards in this draft, being picked in the teens. So we must consider other options.
#27: Maurkice Pouncey OG/C Florida
- With the emergence of Doug Free at Tackle and the new information about Brewster playing RT, Guard becomes the main priority. Pouncey can swing to all 3 interior positions. Has the ability to beat out Kosier for LG at the beginning of the season.
#59: Chris Cook CB/FS Virginia
- Brandon Spikes, Dexter McCluster and Nate Allen all are gone before #59 rolls around so we go with the best available player and it happens to be a DB. Cook is very versatile who can play in different formations and you can never have enough DB's
#90: Dorrin Dickerson TE Pittsburgh
- Some will call it a reach, others will call it a waste of a pick with our current TE situation. However, I believe this will give us the flexibility to move Bennett and Dickerson might be even a better athlete then him. Playing TE in college and proving that he can hold his own as a WR in the senior bowl against the nations top CB's, he can provide the mis-matches that we wanted to see out of Bennett.
#122: Mike Neal DE Purdue
With Spears being in his final year and wanting to get younger at the D-Line, we grab Mike Neal who can play multiple positions in Wade's defense.
#186: O'Brian Schofield LB Wisconsin
Schofield tore up the East-West Shrine Game and proved he can make the transition to a stand up linebacker. Tore his ACL at the Senior Bowl so we can put him on the PUP and save him until later. I believe he can be a player in this league.
#218: Andre Dixon RB UConn
Jerry decides to draft another late RB hoping to hit pay-dirt as he did with Choice and Barber. Dixon sneaks onto the practice squad and the Cowboys develop a RB for a next year, preparing for one of the 3 RB's to leave.
