BRISTOL, United States (AFP) - Vince Carter, the Raptors star swingman who has been clamoring for a trade from Toronto, is headed for the New Jersey Nets , according to a report by ESPN.
The sports information network says that the Nets have acquired Carter, one of the most popular players in the National Basketball Association, for center Alonzo Mourning, forwards Eric Willims and Aaron Williams and two first-round draft picks. League approval for the deal is still pending.
Carter has been asking for a trade since training camp opened, and deals with the Knicks or Trail Blazers have been rumored.
However, any trade was expected to be on hold after Carter was put on the injured list last week with a strained left Achilles tendon.
The reported deal will likely please the Nets' All-Star point guard Jason Kidd, who voiced dismay after the team dealt Kenyon Martin and Kerry Kittles.
Carter, a four-time All-Star, is known for his array of high-flying dunks and appears to be the ideal complement for Kidd's pinpoint passes. Kidd often sets up teammate Richard Jefferson for easy layups and dunks and will do the same for Carter.
Unhappy with playing for his third coach in three years, Carter averaged a career-low 15.9 points this season before going on the injured list.
He has missed Toronto's last three games and must miss two more, meaning he would not be able to play Sunday when the Nets visit Toronto.
