..but the position that has me the most concerned right now is kicker. After last season's fiasco, I have re-evaluated their importance. In a league where parity is a #1 goal, the position has become VERY important in the outcome close games. I'm no chicken little, but I honestly thought that Longwell would be the guy we took. I'm beginning to get a little concerned since I don't think Vanderjerk kicks off (don't know if he can or not). I just hope we don't go through the clown audition we did last season.

At this point, if we lose out on Adam V, I will gladly have Vanderjact.

I could care less if his kickoffs are a little short. We lost games last year because we couldn't hit routine FGs. He is more than capable at doing that.

I would take him happily as a conselation prize.

McBriar can handle kickoffs. That's not a problem. Or if anything else, bing in a kick off specialist. We've done that before. No biggie.

But get a freakin' kicker who can nail the clutch ones. Heck, get a freakin' kicker who can nail the routine ones. :bang2:

mcbriar has never kicked off? Where are you getting this? If he could have he would have done it last year.

McBriar has never kicked off and you want to use 3 roster spots just for kickers?

McBriar has never been given the chance to kick off and he won't be given that chance as long as Parcells is here. It is a somewhat inovative idea to have someone other than the FG kicker to kickoff and Parcells will not stand for it.

It's not innovative, just a waste of a roster spot that could be used for a position that sees more movement (i.e. injuries) like OL or LB...possibly even receiver like we had last season with Price. He had to constantly jockey spots and who would dress. A punter who was able to kick would be great, but not a sole kick-off guy. That would be plain stupid.

I have said it before. Kicker is of minimal value. You better have a solid Oline and a decent D or you will need a kicker that can kick 7 point FGs to go anywhere. If you have a Jose Cortez on your team, can he win you any games really. Yes, if your are a solid ball club that can score 3 TDs a game at least. If you are struggeling to score 14 points a game, no kicker in the world is going to put your in the playoffs.

All departments on a team, Offense, defense and special teams are depnedent on the other 2 departments. If one is sorely lacking the other two can help cover for a time, but any extended period spent sucking will doom the team.

Its not the kicker so much thats important unless your O is weak or your D plays escort tto the endzone more then tackeling. Sure a kicker could have won us 1 or 2 more games, that in turn woulda led to a first round bounce and an embarressing loss in the playoff. We did not have to Offensive line this year to be a real player. No kicker in the world woulda helped this offensive line protect bledose or open holes for JJ.

I thought I had seen every way imagineable to bash Coach Parcells.

But this is a new one.

Very impressive.

I may be mistaken, but I thought the OL was the reason for some missed FGs, especially when Cortez was kicking, but with the others as well.

Seemed like the one against Carolina sticks out, Peppers penetrated with impunity, tipped the ball, (although it was ruled a no touch), and missed the attempt. We all know what followed.

Harder to make FGs with a guys in your face, especially for inexperienced kickers.

I always thought the kicking game went south when Parcells got rid of that coach that was developing kickers for us for years B4 he got here.

Coach Parcells ruined Drew Henson's psyche. He oppressed ReShard Lee. Browbeat and even physically abused his coaches.

Now he is standing in the way of McBriar fulfilling his destiny of being a great kickoff man.

FIRE HIM NOW!

Don't forget: he also selfishly cost Keith Davis a trip to the Pro Bowl as a special teams gunner because he ran him to death on defense; his gag on coaches is stifiling Bruce DeHaven's naturally effusive personality; he's making Larry Allen train like a horse instead of a weight-lifter; and his unflattering physique is killing the sales of Cowboys logo merchandise...

You should only get rid of the kicking coach if you have a kicker who doesn't need coaching anf that excludes the low priced bottom feeders this team has been hiring and treating like trash for years. Get somebody who is good, self-confident, pay and treat him like a pro and he'll deliver. Even a half decent kicker with self-confidence would have won at least one of those three games last year and the team would have been in the playoffs and ending the season on a high note instead of falling flat on their faces.

In short, get someone you can respect and respect him.

O-line and kicking game are not really related. The Nfl has said for several years that the objective of the league is parity among teams (equality in laymans terms). That said, the kickers importance is irrefutable in today's game. Don't give me the "if you just score ___ touchdowns a game, you don't need a kicker at all" line. It's BS. I don't like the fact of kickers making millions and eating up cap space either. The facts are there were ALOT of games last season that were decided in the final moments by field goals or missed extra points somewhere in the game. I'm talking about more than just the Cowboys games. It is a reality.
