The start-up Dallas Football Classic has taken another significant step toward reality.

The college bowl game provided required documentation that it has met all NCAA guidelines for certification, executive director Tom Starr said.

The paperwork, submitted by the April 1 deadline, included a guarantee of a $2 million line of credit, as well as contractual agreements with conference and TV partners. The bowl also had to show qualified management and community support.

The final step will be official NCAA certification April 21-22 in Phoenix. Normally, any problems in the certification process should have surfaced by now.

"We've done everything that we've needed to do," Starr said. "We just have to wait for the committee."

The Football Classic's debut has been scheduled for the Cotton Bowl in Fair Park on Jan. 1, 2011. The game will give the historic stadium a replacement for the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic, which moved to Cowboys Stadium this past season.

The Football Classic has signed four-year agreements with the Big Ten to provide a team against representatives from the Big 12 or Conference USA in alternating years. The game will be televised by the ESPN family of networks, probably beginning on ESPNU, Starr said.
