New CBA removes all substance-abuse suspensions for positive drug tests

While the harshest penalty of a minimum banishment of at least one year still exists under the new CBA, a player who fails to cooperate with testing or clinical care seven different times arguably doesn’t want to remain in the league. Players who cooperate with testing and their clinical programs will never be banished. Indeed, they’ll never even be suspended, no matter how many times they test positive.

What is this, the Randy Gregory rule? lol
 
Heard somewhere where a player could have pot in their system and still not test positive. There has to be a certain amount to test positive. Similar to a sobriety test, you can have alcohol in your system but not be over the legal limit. You can bet players are going to see how much pot they can get away with without testing positive. They’ll be a lot of players playing high under this new policy. They’ll just pay the fines.

For the first violation, the player loses one half of a game check. For the second violation, he loses a week’s pay. For the third violation, it’s two weeks’ salary. For the fourth and all subsequent violations, it’s a three-game fine. While that can get expensive, the player will still be allowed to play.

Suspensions under the new CBA arise only from a failure to cooperate with testing or clinical care while in stage two, and a suspension happens only at the fourth violation (three games). The fifth violation results in a four-game suspension, the sixth violation triggers an eight-game suspension, and the seventh violation leads to banishment for at least a year.

Stage three of the substance-abuse program has been removed from the new CBA.

Pretty much, but its also a copy and paste of the NBA rule.

Sounds more than fair for them pot smokers.

The current level to test positive for Delta 9-THC-carboxylic acid (marijuana) is ≥35ng/mL. Not exactly sure how much that is or how long a player has to abstain from smoking to fall below that level, just providing what is documented in the drug policy right now.

Edit: a link to the propsed policy says the new levels would be Delta 9-THC-carboxylic acid (marijuana) is ≥ 150ng/mL

sadly the commissioner is a reflection of how decayed our society has become. At this point I doubt the next commissioner is any better, he'll be a politician first.

They raised the amount allowed in your system after last CBA. Players still failing. Now they will raise it again and if they fail it seems like they will have a system in place that will be a major pain in there butt. They will be tested constantly which is dumb because they are going to keep failing them so it’s a waste of money. They will hopefully raise the amount allowed very high. Similar to the Olympic games. Believe it or not they have a huge allowance for pot.

Pretty much the same as the olympics. Sounds like if you didn’t smoke on the way in the door to get the drug test you may pass.
 
This includes all substance abuse drugs. That's crazy. So someone could be high on crack and playing football?
