I always love the draft because hope springs eternal, especially in the offseason. And normally I’m a Debbie Downer but this year feels different. I was not a fan of the Schotty hire. Absolutely not. Now it’s growing on me. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again 100 times. This is the first time recent memory that the Cowboys executives acknowledged a culture problem and then followed up with actions to correct the culture problems. Example being the guys they drafted and their past. One of the dudes we drafted, can’t remember his name but one of the RB, organized his team activities when the COVID lockdown happened. That’s what I’m talking about. Leaders, people that want to play football.

This offseason feels different. More foundational for the future and an upgrade from last year’s squad. So I’m optimistic. I’m willing to see what Schotty can do on the field but I have been impressed with him having a plan and then being able to execute that plan. So we’ll see.

McCarthy is gone and that’s a good thing. I also wonder how bad the locker room was with comments DLaw made and that whole thing.

Anyway, the TLDR version of my post is there are positive things happening that we can get excited about, we had a good draft, and let’s be positive and have fun until when/if they give us something to be mad about. I don’t want to spend all offseason moaning and groaning and then we have surprise success this season. Then I just wasted time being mad for no reason.

Still drinking the Kool aid huh! Placing expectations on something sets you up for disappointment. The best predictor of future performance is past performance. The one thing that hasn't changed is Dak. No reason to get excited about this season. I don't understand why most of you fans just don't say hey prove it! Show me! I will believe it after I see it! That's the proper mentality to have considering they haven't done anything. Usually hard work is rewarded in the NFL but Jerry didn't do any hard work with this coaching hire. It was more of a lazy convenient hire. The schedule is a strong tough road and the division is getting better.
 
I'm willing to see what the new staff can accomplish, without trying to base it off the past performance of any one man. Schotty was allowed to pick his assistants, and had a presence in the war room, and the coaches he hired seem to know a thing or two.

If they start off 0-4, I'll let some negativity seek in...Okay, it'll barge in like an ex-girlfriend who wants her furniture back...But I'm going to give it a chance first.

From Corpus Christi, but really a Texan and Cowboys fan. We buried the last 5 Star Omar Bradley and while I was at Fort Bliss.

This is a good group of players who's team discipline and focus will allow them to be competitive. The real heart of the issues involved.

This isn't another end of Reagan's 100, but another Dallas Cowboys' team committed to just that ... being a team.

I really like what has been done to get here. I'm gladly watching, but supportive in paying attention to our team.

Original and invent?....after action review every season and leadership starts each season. Not pessimism eternal.

Projection doesn't have to be based upon failure. This team's leadership has changed. Not a picture of corruption.

Now...'stand me up at the gate's of hell' and get us Amari Cooper!:starspin::popcorn:

Did they just replace all 50 (plus) players with college players that have never played even in college? Sorry but that's a rather moronic statement...
 
Talent wise they are 3rd. Can this coaching staff scheme some wins? I don't know we have seen them together. HC aside I like how they put the assistants together.. it was intentional, thorough, well thought out, and didn't just hire the 1st guy they spoke to.. my hope is together they elevate the players abilities.

I agree. Eagles and wash are much better and giants will take a leap based on offseason adds, draft and last place schedule.

I agree. I dont have sky high expectations, but I think its overly negative to believe we can't make a run at the playoffs. Let's see how the run game and the defense respond to the new staff. Let's see how our cast away former high pedigree free agents respond. If nothing else I'm curious to see how it comes together. Last year I felt fairly certain we weren't improving. This year I at least have the unknown.

It's true that each season should be a time of renewal and hope.....but when free agency again consists of getting over the hill players or young busts, the expectation remains tempered.

Show me where there is a real change in roster building and I'll show you REAL excitement and enthusiasm

Assessing Dallas’ Draft-Day Needs​

The Cowboys have long enjoyed a reputation for high-powered offense. However, that identity has taken a hit. Outside of CeeDee Lamb, Dallas lacks a dependable No. 2 receiver. That’s something that’s become more apparent as defenses focus their coverage on Lamb in critical moments. The Cowboys tried to bolster their backfield by signing Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders. That said, both come with durability concerns and neither projects as a true RB1. Add in a declining offensive line that’s lost future Hall of Famer Zack Martin to retirement, and it’s clear this offense needed help in both protection and skill positions.

On the other side of the ball, the defense has its own problems. Injuries exposed the lack of depth in the secondary. Jourdan Lewis also departed in free agency. That created another hole in a unit that struggled to stay healthy. The pass rush remains formidable with Micah Parsons. Still, coverage has to hold up longer for this unit to be elite. Dallas entered this draft with glaring needs at cornerback, interior offensive line, and running back. And yet, the Cowboys’ front office did what it has historically done best: build from the trenches and gamble on upside where others hesitate.

A Familiar Formula: Building from the Inside Out​

Rather than chase a marquee name, Dallas leaned into its identity. In Round 1, the Cowboys selected Alabama guard Tyler Booker. He is a powerful and polished blocker expected to slot in immediately as Zack Martin’s successor. When paired with Tyler Guyton (2024) and Tyler Smith (2022), it gives Dallas three recent first-rounders on the offensive line. That’s a foundation most NFL teams would envy. With Booker, Dallas may well return to having one of the league’s top-five offensive lines. That’s a necessity in protecting quarterback Dak Prescott and maximizing whatever the team gets from its running back committee. The true masterstroke, however, didn’t come until Day 2.

Best Move: Drafting CB Shavon Revel Jr., East Carolina​

It might seem odd to crown a third-round pick as the Cowboys’ best move of the 2025 draft. However, Shavon Revel Jr could be just that. Dallas has a long history of uncovering defensive back talent. Recall Trevon Diggs, Anthony Brown, and Byron Jones. Revel, if healthy, might top them all in terms of pure upside. He was a projected first-round pick before suffering a torn ACL three games into his final college season at East Carolina. Revel eventually saw his stock plummet due to injury. That said, Dallas had unique insight into his recovery. What they’re getting is a physical prototype at corner. Revel’s film reveals a high-effort, high-instinct player who can thrive in man or zone coverage. During his pre-draft visit, Cowboys defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus came away impressed with Revel’s competitiveness and physicality.
