New coaching staff, new mentality and new culture

What was the point of freeing up salary cap space, and not signing any legit FA's?

If we added 1 impact player, I would be excited.
1 impact player doesn't always get you there.
Adding many solid players works better. Build a sold foundation. That holds up much better than one strong player and the rest weaker.

Consider it like building a dam. All parts must work together to be strong. Then you can get players to emerge to be an impact.
I think that is called team building 101.

There are three types of fans who come on social media regarding their teams:
- People who want to cheer for their team
- People who want to discuss their team
- People who want to vent about their team

Those three groups of people frequently don't get along. Honestly, this particular website has one of the biggest divides I have seen.

Regardless, I do not see reason for positivity. The fan in me hopes I am wrong.
There is a 4th.
Fans than crap on anything and everything and hate their team
a 5th
Those that just troll.

Most people seem to be basing their opinions on the 2025 season outcome on the fact that the previous years coaching staff is the same coaching staff currently on deck. They either discount that fact or just chose to be ignore it to further their agenda. Well, that’s a mistake. There’s a thread out there about how much the defense is going to suck. How could anyone know that? They couldn’t. New coaching staff, new mentality and new culture. There’s threads out there about how the offense is going to suck because of no WR#2 and they didn’t draft a RB until the 5th round. How could they know? They couldn’t. New coaching staff, new mentality and new culture.

This is an exciting time in the NFL with new players from free agency, trades and the draft as well as new coaches all around. If you can’t get excited now about this years Cowboys then maybe you should find another type of entertainment. Because that’s all it is folks. Entertainment. No reason to become a Debbie Downer over everything like most of the posters are. It’s an exciting time and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2025.
Great post, I believe that this Coaching Staff and Scouting department hit it out the park this draft with what seems like a new philosophy... picks from round 1-3 were combined for great value and rounds 5-7 is where the scouting department shined.

Overall, I'm excited with the draft class and hope they compete at a great level this year.

You at least have to consider the “new” coaching staff will not be as effective as the previous one. Just be cause it’s new does not mean it’s an improvement. The new culture may be counterproductive.

The other three teams in the division do not have new head coaches. They’ll enjoy a degree of continuity. Dallas’ new head coach is in his first head coaching job at any level. Assuming he’ll be better at it than his predecessor, Mike McCarthy, is unlikely. Experience counts for something. In addition, Schottenheimer was part of the previous coaching staff. Jerry Jones spoke with McCarthy prior to hiring him as the new head coach. Obviously McCarthy would have been the head coach if Jerry had acquiesced to McCarthy’s demands.

New coaching staff is true enough. Whether or not this new group can change culture and mentality has yet to be seen. It’s certainly not something fans can count on.
This is the mentality I don’t get. There’s 2 options here. Be optimistic about the new coaching staff or being negative. You immediately took the negative view. Why?

This draft looks like Shotty got what he wanted.

It's just unfortunate that we, for the most part did not participate in FA, with plenty of cap space available.
You also didn’t consider for a second that the season doesn’t start until Sept and that they could add talent before then.

So new coaching staff, new mentality and new culture is all that is needed to be successful in the NFL? Its seems so when i read your argumentation.

Our "new" HC, who should set the tone about those points you mentioned, has been here for years. I doubt he has a complete different mindset of how to approach things. If so he would have left years before. Just because you cant work with other people who have a complete different mindset for years day in and day out. So i dont think there is a lot of change to be expected. If you read or hear something like it thats the usual PR rubbish.
The fundamental culture in Dallas is set by our FO and so by the Joneses. No HC will change that to the better. At least no HC did in the last two decades. So thats a trend that shouldnt be ignored just because you or me are afraid to be called a "Debbie Downer".

Btw why should i search for new entertainment when Dallas is playing bad? I like watching football. Football is not Dallas.

There are not many (if at all) convincing arguments in your posts to show me that 2025 will be different than the years before.
You do you and be miserable. I like being optimistic about the possibilities with a new coaching staff, new players and other players coming back from injury. Being optimistic keeps me happy.

How many 12 wins teams have YOU ever seen? Cry baby. Buy yourself a trophy....don't call yourself a fan.
Quite a few actually, the NFL had eight 12+ win teams last season. Two of those were in our own division (Philly with 14 and Washington with 12) - want to guess what they don't have in common with the Cowboys?

Same ol' Cowboyszone though. It's depressing to be on this site for an extended period of time. I don't blame you for taking a break from the inmates who have taken over the asylum. I had to as well.

GO COWBOYS! :star:
Its not the posters that have caused the issues with the team.

The lack of bringing some disapline to the team and a terrible running scheme turned McCarthy 's offense in to the Texas Toast offense. I hope Shottenheimer can instill some disapline into this team and a better offense, we will see. I think this team has improved from last season with the players and coaches.
Yeah, MM only paid lip service to the running game.

How'd they do in the playoffs?

When people bring up how many wins they had in a season but then ignore what happened in the postseason, it's pretty telling.
You sound like a parrot, “But how’d they do in the playoffs, but how’d they do in the playoffs.”

What does 12 wins signify? Recall two years ago Philadelphia started out 10-1, they faltered down the stretch. Finished with 11 wis and got blown out in the first round of the playoffs on the road in Tampa. There were derisive comments here about the Eagles, their head coach, and their quarterback. Everyone felt their Super Bowl the previous season was a fluke. Their weird head coach with the “punchable face” would be fired. And their quarterback, Jalen Hurts, is not only not elite, but not really very good. That same season the Cowboys won 12 games, again, also got blown out in the first round of the playoffs at home.

Measure the response of both franchises in the immediate aftermath of those disappointing playoff losses. Maybe you can’t understand why 12 wins in a season doesn’t mean much. Most at this site can. The Cowboys coach is the one out of a job, the Cowboys quarterback is not only not elite, but not really very good. And the 12 win seasons, perhaps they were a fluke.

Don’t call yourself a fan.
He’s more of a fan than you’ll ever be that’s a fact. 12 wins gets you into the postseason and possibly even a bye so it means a hell of a lot. But you don’t understand that.

He isn’t saying that. He’s saying it’s the posters that make it difficult for good folks to visit the forum.
No no.

It's the posters that make it difficult for the soft, overly emotional cry babies to visit the forum, you mean.
