New coaching staff, new mentality and new culture

Oh you’re entertained or you wouldn’t be watching the games. Or maybe you’re one of the many who SAY they watch the games yet are constantly posting negative thoughts during the game threads.
I don't miss games; I'm talking about this offseason.

Its not the posters that have caused the issues with the team.
 Did I say the negative posters are the cause of our team having playoff issues? No, I didn't. I said they (the trolls) make it depressing to be a part of this site. And they are the reason this site has turned into an anti-Cowboys site.

Did you comment to the wrong person or something?

I did consider, the top talent is already gone.

Only thing left is, older broken down vets, low floor unproven players with potential, and head ache players that want a massive extensions.
Ok I’ll say it again, they can make a trade with another team for a proven player. Now do you understand?

It's a good post and a good point, but there's one caveat to that I'd like to say. We don't know if it's a new culture. They say it is, but do we know for sure? After all, Jerry is still in control and doing the same things he's done every year. Where will training camp be? does he still have the open door policy that allows players to bypass the coaches? Will it still be a country club attitude engendered by Jerry? We just don't know. So there's no definitively saying "new culture." They just say it is. The proof is in the pudding though. We will see. As fans we should give the benefit of the doubt, but I don't blame some fans that won't. 30 years of the same thing will do that.
I totally agree and I’ve said before that the proof is in how you walk the talk.

I didn't mention playoffs

Most people seem to be basing their opinions on the 2025 season outcome on the fact that the previous years coaching staff is the same coaching staff currently on deck. They either discount that fact or just chose to be ignore it to further their agenda. Well, that’s a mistake. There’s a thread out there about how much the defense is going to suck. How could anyone know that? They couldn’t. New coaching staff, new mentality and new culture. There’s threads out there about how the offense is going to suck because of no WR#2 and they didn’t draft a RB until the 5th round. How could they know? They couldn’t. New coaching staff, new mentality and new culture.

This is an exciting time in the NFL with new players from free agency, trades and the draft as well as new coaches all around. If you can’t get excited now about this years Cowboys then maybe you should find another type of entertainment. Because that’s all it is folks. Entertainment. No reason to become a Debbie Downer over everything like most of the posters are. It’s an exciting time and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2025.

Good ol Rockport. Loyal fan to the end.

I’d have more hope if the Eaglets weren’t being run so well.

Don’t see us taking them down this year.

Yeah, thank you Prescott played defense

Then how did he lead a team to 12 wins for 3 straight seasons. After starting with 13 straight wins his rookie season season in 2016. You sound anything but full of bluf.

"I'm here to win," Akingbesote said. "I want to win a Super Bowl. I'm here to win and get the team better. I want to win a Super Bowl. That's what is on my mind."

That is definitely one Turtle who isn't interested in taking things slow.

The onus is now on one of the more heralded defensive line coaches in the NFL, Aaron Whitecotton, to refine, improve and unlock what's inside of Toia and Akingbesote to make them impact contributors for an interior rotation that will also see former seventh-round pick Justin Rogers scratching and clawing for reps against Toia, Akingbesote and others, namely Earnest Brown IV and Denzel Daxon (International Pathway Program).

Time to start watching and comparing facts as they develop. Not stereotyped prejudice. Either learn how to support team or at least don't insult for one's own prejudice. You know, honesty and ethics.

I'm watching...for sure.

This make any sense?

CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin suggested former Philadelphia Eagles Pro Bowler Carson Wentz as a potential option.

"Carson Wentz to the Cowboys," Benjamin said. "Dallas dealt a pick to the New England Patriots for Joe Milton III, an intriguing young arm to develop behind Dak Prescott. You've gotta think they'd like a bit more experience in the room, considering Prescott's missed extensive time in three of his last five seasons. And Wentz, their old NFC East rival, has drawn solid reviews as a big-armed backup for a couple of contenders in recent years."

First off the NFC East has been a terrible division for years. Look at Prescott's record against the NFC East and than outside the division. At 2016 season Prescott was an unknown and it wasn't until the end of the season that a couple teams like the Giants and Vikings started to figure him out. Sure he hung a lot of points on Green Bay but that was a 31st rank past defense. In 2017 the Denver Broncos pantsed him. That is when he got exposed. His years went on he was no more than just an average QB worth about 7-9 wins with the major help of Zeke. And then they drafted Parsons a gold nugget that fell right into their lap when they weren't even targeting him they were targeting Patrick Surtain. Parsons face the team an extra 4 wins a season with his stellar play. He was so good he elevated the players around him both the defense AND offense. Dak has never elevated the players around him unless it was against the Giants and Commanders. If anything Daks play once they get into the playoffs has deflated the rest of the team. That's why we see these blowouts. I'm telling you the locker room is divided on Dak and it's gotten worse over the years. The defense doesn't even have time to make corrections before they have to run out there because Dak goes three and out especially in the playoff games and against good teams.
How many years in a row are we going to say oh this game is a good measuring stick for Dak and Dak falls flat on his face.

Sick haiku
ESPN's Todd Archer says that the Cowboys will have former Houston quarterback Donovan Smith at rookie minicamp, where he will try out for the team.

“The two practices open to the media on Friday, Saturday will only be about an hour each to serve as introduction for the rookies," Archer said on X after noting that Smith would be with the team on a tryout basis.

Smith spent his first three college seasons at Texas Tech before transferring to Houston for the 2023 season. Last year, the quarterback played in nine games. He completed 65% of his passes for 867 yards, throwing for four touchdowns and eight interceptions.

YOU tell ME where this player's actual oppurtunity is going ... Mr. you are the only one with a single doubt and ignores how tough the sport really is. Root on how supportive and righteous this fan glamour really ends up.

I STILL respect the real sacrifices and YEA under Jerrry Jones, and giving it all up on an individual basis.

Sorry, I don't belly bump and act enlightened instead.. now rush up and take away governmental funds for drugs that can immediately take away the killing effects of opioids.

Your lame excuses and lie.

You at least have to consider the “new” coaching staff will not be as effective as the previous one. Just be cause it’s new does not mean it’s an improvement. The new culture may be counterproductive.

The other three teams in the division do not have new head coaches. They’ll enjoy a degree of continuity. Dallas’ new head coach is in his first head coaching job at any level. Assuming he’ll be better at it than his predecessor, Mike McCarthy, is unlikely. Experience counts for something. In addition, Schottenheimer was part of the previous coaching staff. Jerry Jones spoke with McCarthy prior to hiring him as the new head coach. Obviously McCarthy would have been the head coach if Jerry had acquiesced to McCarthy’s demands.

New coaching staff is true enough. Whether or not this new group can change culture and mentality has yet to be seen. It’s certainly not something fans can count on.
Over the years I have noticed that often when the Cowboys have high expectations they fall flat and underperform what we expect from them. Conversely, when we don’t expect much from the Cowboys they sometimes catch lightning in a bottle one over perform our expectations.

I have been very pessimistic this offseason. In fact more so than ever before. But this team has made some nice moves, appears to have drafted well and possibly even hired the right head coach for once. I’m starting to actually become somewhat optimistic about this season.

The other teams in the division will have their own issues. Give it time. All teams face adversity. Whether it’s injuries, contract disputes, or chinks in their armor, they will show up.

Offensively, #2 receiver is the highest level question. Top most.

But just below that is the production by run game.

Which Backs Will Remain

The first order of business will be sorting out which of the seven running backs will make the 53-man roster in September.

Hunter Luepke, at fullback, would appear to be a safe bet. If Brian Schottenheimer really wants to lean on the run, he’s going to need a good blocking fullback to get the job done.

Luepke also adds the benefit of having been a power halfback at North Dakota State. He fits the mold of Robert Newhouse in the 1970s. Newhouse was a fullback one year, then the Cowboys’ leading rusher the next at halfback.
In a pinch, Luepke could replicate that role.

In his final two playoff games, he only had four yards against Arizona State and 16 against Ohio State.

This does not scream RB1 to anyone outside of The Star, which is why Blue was there in the fifth round.

While Mafah had six games with 100 yards or more in 2024, like Blue, he vanished in post-season play.
The two recent draft picks, Jaydon Blue (5th – Texas) and Phil Mafah (7th – Clemson) are also likely safe bets, barring injury. Blue, in his final two playoff games, he only had four yards against Arizona State and 16 against Ohio State. This does not scream RB1 to anyone outside of The Star, which is why Blue was there in the fifth round.

*(reflection upon the college game presently)

While none of the backs right now are RB1-caliber, someone is going to be the starter. Frankly, I think it will be Mafah. If beefing up the offensive line to smash the ball at the opponent is the ultimate goal, Mafah is a stronger power runner than either Blue or Williams.

So for now, RB1-ish is Mafah.

Loyal?

Loyalty doesnt mean leaving and disappearing when things go bad and you cant handle being called out for it.

I havent seen the guy post since during last season until now.

He vanished for months, then shows up here to tell us all how to be "fans".

LOL
