What I see is a guy in coverage who takes very poor angles and over runs plays. There is no excuse for that even if you are playing deep

It's college. Where a LB coach in the NFL is a defensive coordinator in college. At best.

I had high school coaches teaching the job of safety and would have been all over me for over running plays and take those poor angles that I see with Mays. Mays is not quick in reacting he can make up for it with his speed but his coverage skill are not that good.

can anyone name players who weren't productive in college who were combine freaks that went high in the draft (say 1st round) that turned out to be studs in the NFL? Not saying there aren't any, just can't think of any off the top of my head..

I see him as more of a 4-3 Will or a 3-4 ILB. As he ages he's going to put on even more weight, so I'm not sure he will be able to play safety. There aren't any safeties his size in the NFL, but then again I guess you could say there aren't any with his speed either.

I just think his skill set points more to linebacker than safety.

It basically all comes down to the belief that he can't cover man to man. Cause if you want to say he just has poor insticts, doesn't tackle well, etc. Well those aren't good skills for a LB either.

I will say this RW coverage skills at OU looked a hell of alot better than what Mays showed at USC. If you are stuggling like that in the college ranks well it is get alot harder at the next level than what he faced last season in college.

doesn't tackle well sounds like a big issue for a LB..im not a professional at this though

He's not a good coverage safety, but I think he would be above-average at it at worst as a linebacker. He does overrun plays, but I think he is better in run support than he some times gets credit for. He does need to work on wrapping up though.

Im an idiot lol..I just looked at Polamalus college stats earlier..he had like 6 INTs in college..I would say he is a pretty darn good player in the NFL..the trojans do have a knack for producing NFL caliber safeties

ints are clearly stats you see however not giving up the big plays is also part of the game and when you over run a WR like Mays did on many occations that is a quick 6 you just gave up. The number of Ints does not tell me how many were tipped balls, poorly thrown balls or good coverage

Mays was ABUSED at the Senior bowl all week. You can be an athletic freak but if you have no instincts to make plays...you are just an athletic freak...not a football player.
