We trade #9 and #143 to Jacksonville for #17, #49 and #121. Reasoning is that all of the stud defensive players are off the board and I still dont buy the fact that Jerry is going to take an OL #9 since hes never been willing to take 1 even in the 1st round. Jacksonville needs a QB of the future and theyre not willing to sit back and wait for the good ones to be gone. I can see them taking Locker at #9.
Ok, on to the mock
#17- Phil Taylor DT Baylor- This is probably going to be extremely unpopular here, but Taylor is the type of player that doesnt come along every year in my eyes. Hes the type of guy that will anchor our 3-4 d-line for years to come like Wilfork has for NE. If it wasnt for 1 fight he got into as a 19 year old sophomore I believe hes looking at being a consensus top 10 pick this year.
#40- Marcus Cannon OT/OG TCU- False tumor rumors aside this kid is a freak of nature. Hes 6'5 350 and was called 1 of the best athletes on his TCU team. Hes got long arms 34" and is extremely strong with 33 bench reps. Its debatable whether he has the foot quickness to stay at RT, but he should make an excellent OG with his size. Reminds me a lot of our own Leonard Davis, and if hes moved to OG right away then he could be a starter for a long time.
#49- Ras-I Dowling CB Virgina- Great size for a CB and has elite athletic ability. He would have been a sure 1st round pick had he come out as a JR but elected to go back for his SR year. He then suffered a series of leg injuries that only allowed him to play in 2 games. None of the injuries were too serious that they would affect him long term, so he seems like a steal this late.
#71- James Carpenter OT Bama- 2 time all SEC LT with good size at 6'4 320. I think hes the perfect example of not athletic enough to be a LT in the NFL, but could make a solid RT.
#110- John Moffit OG Wisconsin- Not an elite athlete, but he has adequate size and is very smart and hard working. Hes the type of guy that may never make a pro-bowl, but could easily be a solid starter for many years.
#121- Chris Culliver FS/CB/KR SC- 6' 200 lbs and ran a 4.36 40. Got recruited to SC as a WR then made the switch to FS for 24 starts and then 8 starts his SR year at CB before he got hurt. Hes a great athlete that could contribute as a return man immediately and if given the time to learn 1 position could make a nice steal if he develops.
#176- Da'Rel Scott RB Maryland- 5'11 210 with 4.4 speed. Explosive back who averaged 5.5 yards a carry at maryland. Not much of a blocker or complete back, but could be a nice change of pace back to compliment Choice and Felix.
#220- Josh Portis QB Cal(PA)- Cousin of Clinton Portis and former stand out prep star that was highly recruited to Florida back in '05. Never got PT(that tebow guy) and transferred to Maryland. Got into some trouble there and fell out of favor. Eventually ended up at D2 Cal(PA) and started for 2 years where he threw 69 TD's and only 16 INTs and won a national championship. Hes 6'3 210 and ran a 4.59 40 with a very strong arm. Why not in the 7th round?
