Don't you think it would be a good idea to change the offense to a more short pass offense like the Patriots. If he can take a 3 step drop and release the ball for short routes , he obviously has a lot less chance of getting hit and hurt. Life after Romo is going to be rough so they should try to do anything to prolong his career

Can't change the offense mid way in the season maybe in Febuary or March but there's nothing wrong with the offense, we were and still are missing our offensive difference makers.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Correct. Offenses are installed over a period of weeks in the offseason. It is next to impossible to switch gears at this stage.

If the plan is wrong now, it was wrong back in the spring. No magic can change things now.

That's really not changing the offense
We did lots of short routes with Beasley and the te's even last year and lots when Dunbar was healthy
The problem is that it's hard to run those routes when you have no threat down the field

Part of the problem is that Brady and Romo are two different types of QB's. Brady is noticeably taller and plays taller and has an overhand delivery. It's why Brady is very good at the play action to the tight end on goal line situations and that's not really a strength of Romo's. I would like to see us play a little more like the Saints because Brees is a short QB and they don't really dink-n-dunk a ton. Brees will oftenr look deep and then if it's not there, immediately hit a nice checkdown to receiver in place to make a big run after the catch. It would fit our offense much better.

The offense appeared to have changed somewhat in the 2 games that Romo played. In those games they had a lot of short and intermediate crossing routes and they used Dunbar a lot in the passing game. In the past, especially before Linehan arrived, they would rarely have any routes in the short/intermediate middle area of the field. When Romo would get early pressure, the receiver were often all still half-way into their routes.

They started off last season (Linehan's first) with with mostly the long developing routes but started to incorporate more the the short/intermediate routes in the middle of the field as the season progressed.

This years the short/intermediate middle of the field routes were an immediate emphasis more than I had seen at anytime in the Romo/Garrett time frame.

Once the backup QBs started playing, they missed a lot of throws on the quick routes like slants. Both Weed and Cassel struggled with accuracy/timing on slant routes. The ball has to lead the receiver on those but they were throwing it right at or behind the receiver. The pass offense then seemed to become longer routes with a RB short for the dump off. The ball seemed to end up going to the RB way too often because the backup QBs couldn't find the open receivers in time or the receivers without Dez were struggling to get open. In reviewing the All-22 it appears that the receivers often do get open but not at the same time that the QB is looking to that side of the field.

The bottom line is that the scheme has been able to get receivers open to some extent but the backup QBs are not finding them and when they do the ball is not always accurate.

That is completely crazy

Now that players are finally used to the clap/ spit/ clap offense after 5 years, you would completely confuse them by making a radical changes he going to clap/ clap/ spit

Have you not been paying attention? Short passes are all we've been doing. At some point you have to work the ball down the field. We haven't been able to do that consistently. Everything is congested and as a result it makes it really difficult to pick up first downs and get in the end zone. It can work if you have an accurate quarterback who can fit the ball into tight windows and shield the ball away from oncoming safeties and look off them as well. We have that guy. Unfortunately he's still out.
