Believe half of what they are saying, be skeptical.16 Rbs have been selected, that means big vet names you know are going to be cut in May for salary cap reasons. The Cowboys will be shopping for vet minimum RBs.This board will be declaring them "washed" but McClays staff will know.
Zeke will be exclusively a short yardage runner and will allow us to run a team out of time as we didn't do against Detroit after the Wilson INT w/2:16 left.Shouldn't have happened.

There are and will be veteran cuts and they'll be experienced in pass protection, the RB room is not full yet.

Well, Dallas has gone through RD 5 and no RB is drafted. Jerry's drooling over Brooks didn't pan out.

Even if Dallas finds a Dollar General RB in RD6, RD7 or UDFA, to put your faith/weight in anyone here is not likely.
And to trade for a RB from a team that has a surplus still isn't much faith in and will lose draft capital for 2025, which hurt the Dallas draft capital in 2024, where they really could have used that 4th RD pick for a RB.

So the rumor/reports that E Elliott return to Dallas is looking more and more likely. Most will not to thrilled with this, but Elliott will not demand much in a contract with Dallas already dealing with his "dead" cap space from his previous contract.

Elliott "should" be happy ( if this happens) to come back to the Cowboys where he really did enjoy. Play with his friend Dak and with this "rebirth", hopefully comes in in good shape.
No one is going to expect Elliott to be a 1,000 rusher but Elliott does stay healthy. He is a good block RB to protect Dak and does know how to get that 1-2 yards to get into the end zone.

Rico Dowdle will have to stay healthy and get more use out of him. Plus the RB they got in FA from the Rams and let's see what UDFA this team can find. And will Deuce Vaughn make significant improvement from his disappointing rookie season
I told everyone trading away our 4th round pick for a BUST 3rd string QB was a huge mistake that would come back to haunt us come draft time 2024.

I got smoked for being right. Oh well. Cheer away.

How does the 4th rounder for Trey Lance and the non-running back selection factor here? The 4th round pick, given up in 2023, created a hole in Dallas' availability picks in 2024. Jones both recouped and upgraded the lost pick with a third rounder during the draft.

If Dallas was truly proactive in getting a running back, they would have reached for one either a) without making the Guyton trade; or b) used their second third round pick. The Mad Genius has some type of backup plan in place--probably desperately hoping to strike oil in undrafted free agency--but the lost Lance 4th rounder does not impact their actual selections with forethought or hindsight.

Typical homer response.

With that traded away 4th round pick, the Cowboys could have addressed their current RB issue. Will Shipley, Braelon Allen and Isaac Guerendo were all available. Either one of them could have started and contributed right away. Meanwhile, we're stuck with a BUST project who is currently our 3rd string QB and most likely will be gone after this season once Dak gets a new contract.

Look let’s give him a chance. He still has what it takes. His value will be more in line this time. For his contract we expected him to be a 1700 yards per season back. Which we should However with his new deal We don’t know what it will be. I am assuming vet minimum. If he comes in. Gives us 800 yards and keeps dak upright. He is still worth more than any other backs on this draft.

Is this official? If so, it's a stupid move

Typical attack mode.

All three examples could have been drafted with the extra third round pick as reaches because... they... were... available...

Your response is not logical--unless you are suggesting that substitution of the original fourth pick (not round but available pick) already in Jones' pocket, exchanged for the new fourth pick (that was what the second third round pick became) for Jones to use could not have been used to reach for all three examples.

This is not rocket science. Your argument makes sense if Jones does not make the Guyton trade and acquired the extra third rounder. Additionally, your argument would be empowered moreso if Jones has not reached for players in the past. He has an established history of reaching in the draft.

Let's review:

Prior to the Lance trade, Jones had a first, second, third and fourth rounder. His fourth available pick could have been used to pick your examples. That is your argument.

After the Lance trade, Jones had a first, second and a single third round pick. The in-draft trade nets him another third round pick. The extra third round pick could have been used to get any of the three examples instead of being used on Marist Liufau because it was his fourth draft pick.

The reach could have been argued as much as a single round too soon. Jones has reached for players two or more rounds above their draft grade in his nearly four decades as GM.

Remove yourself from attack mode. Think logically.

Ok, no attack mode. Strictly logical. Had Jerry not traded for Lance (who will be gone via free agency after this season and never stepped on the field the 2 years he was in Dallas), the Cowboys would have had a chance to pick either Will Shipley, Braelon Allen or Isaac Guerendo with their 4th pick. The RB position would have been addressed.

Yeah, a lot of people hated Zeke. Imo it was because of the money he was making. I always liked him. Though he was a tough player.
Hopefully now with a lower cap number people will start liking him again.

Zeke averaged 3.5 yards per carry last year, 53rd amongst RBs. He’s cooked and is nothing more than a 3rd down pass protector. It was sheer incompetence not to trade back into the 4th round to pick a RB (we will have many comp picks next year).

Again, they could have addressed with the pick they recouped. Never mind.
