Most coaches are supposedly in favor of college OT rules.

I tend to agree if they have to have something different.

This made no sense. You still play OT (except with a 10 minute clock--big deal), you still expose the players to more snaps and you get the glorious side effect of possibly more tie games.

I don't get why sudden death was such a bad thing.

I don't get it either. Shortening it would only increase the tie games. Who wants that? Just let them play and quit micro managing every damn detail of the game. The players will survive.

It's all about the extra time called on for the networks, imo. Protecting the players is just a buzz phrase used on any change they can stick it to. Pro forma claim.

On the other hand, it beats the college OT rules. They're nothing but glorified scrimmages.

They sure are doing their best to screw this game up. It's tiresome.

There are already too many ties when they play 15:00 overtimes. Shortening OT to 10 minutes would make it even worse.

If they want to make changes to overtime, they should take out the possibility of a tie, altogether. Play 10-15 min OT, and if still tied, line up at the 20 and go score - alternating possessions. No extra points, must go for two. Sort of like college does already.

No matter what the first team does on the first possession, the other team gets at least one possession. After both teams have had a possession, sudden death rules ensue.

Another variation......first team scores a TD and PAT. Second team must go for 2 if they score a TD.

why not change the rule that you have to go for 2 after every td during the whole game...i bet that would cut down alot of overtime games.
