News: New SLB | Anthony Hitchens

I have been thinking that he would be the SAM for a while now. Not trying to be a smart *** or anything. Just he is one of the three best LB's IMO and he should be starting. Lee at WLB and Ro at MLB leaves the SAM for Hitch.

EDIT: I do realize it hasn't been made official yet, so hearing that Eberflus said that confirms it. I don't want you to think I don't appreciate the post. Just that it is kind of common sense IMO.

I figured as much too............. Lee - WLB, McClain - MLB, Hitchens - SLB.

If Lee is healthy and McClain continues to get better, the only way to get Hitchens on the field would be at the SAM spot. And Hitchens is the 3rd best LB on the roster right now so I am not sure how you could keep him on the bench for some of the slop we added in free agency.

The LB position is very fluid. I know we have Lee and RoMc locked in as starters but after that, we have so many LB's anything is possible.

ST should reap some rewards from this draft as well. We could use the infusion of young talent there, especially with the loss of Harris, but I think our athleticism and aggressiveness on ST will be improved.

I'm liking the competition at the LB spot. All that talent is going to force everyone to elevate their game. If we can catch a few breaks with suspensions and injury, this could be a very good and very fast defense.

In my opinion Hitchens has earned the right to be penciled in as SLB to open camp. I was really impressed by his play.

Is Wilson projected to play the Weakside?

Like G Beast said, I have heard WLB and MLB for him, so he will likely be a primary backup at one of those spots and concentrate on special teams, unless there is an injury.

Things are certainly looking up, but I still wonder about Mo. We need some production from him, and he is probably still the weakest link on the D.
He has not shown to be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but neither was Carter, and Bruce finally started understanding the D after 3 years.
Also, the situation is similar regarding contract years and effort -- maybe this will be a break-through year for Mo, then he can move on.

He should at least be Mo-tivated.

I'm listening (video isn't working) to yesterday's Talkin' Cowboys and Mickey Spagnola dropped a nugget towards the end of the show.

He spoke with LB coach Matt Eberflus about who he would open up with at the linebacker spots during off-season work.

Anthony Hitchens will get first crack at SAM.

I've heard on several occasions that the coaches didn't like him on the strongside, just in the middle and on the weakside.

I'm happy to hear it.

Kyle Wilber, Keith Rivers, et all don't inspire confidence.

Yes, Eberflus said in an interview that Hitchens would get the 1st shot to be the starter at SLB.

I think the person putting it out there that the coaches didn't like him at SLB was Broaddus. This is the same guy that said about 1000 time during the season that Marinelli was going to Tampa.

I don't know if he will even be ready for training camp. That injury is generally worse than an ACL. He could start out on the PUP.

I think Broaddus said that HE didn't like him at SLB, not necessarily that the coaches. I could be wrong, but I think it was represented as his own personal take.

It's my own personal take as well, but I'm neither paid to be an NFL coach, an NFL Scout, nor an NFL Reporter. I think I should pay to be an NFL Team Forum Contributor, but I can't get @WoodysGirl to agree.

That will be interesting to watch on Mo. They are saying Cruz should be able to play week 1 for the Giants and he had his injury after Mo.
