Samsung Captivate on AT&T

Are you running 2.2 Froyo?

Yes.

I should have the exact same platform as you but I don't see it in the apps at all.

Also, I love the live wallpapers but am not using one as I believe it will drain the battery that much more. Any truth to this?

Yes.

Not only that, some wallpapers are very poor and will cause your phone to get sluggish. I had one that showed the earth rotating. It caused terrible lag on my phone and had to get rid of it. I just use the Google Live Wallpaper. They work well and don't cause lag or heavy battery drain.

Be-careful with them too, Idiot developers do stupid things in those wallpapers sometimes. I wouldn't install any live wallpaper unless it came directly from Google's app store either.

Nice purchase!

I just took the plunge on a HTC Inspire 4G (I have AT&T). It is my first smartphone. I've had it for almost a week. Love it.

The first app I was told to download was the Advanced Task Killer. It will "kill" any apps you're not using that are running in the background.

Also was told about the antivirus app from AVG. It will scan all downloads.

As I said, I'm learning as well! Good luck.

Great phone Aikmaniac. I had one for a week but returned it. Not because I didn't like it but because ATT HTC phones don't seem to want to allow third party apps and I would have to use one to load a Lotus Notes application I must have for work related usage. Bummer for me but it's a a great phone.

That's good to hear.

It appears to be hard to beat at the price ($99). I've read several reviews where it was compared head to head with the Iphone 4. It fared very well.

Just saw this thread, and got excited to get rid of ATK because I don't like the ads on it. But I have to say that I don't see Task Manager, either. Sprint EVO with 2.2 here.

Just a tip from my experience.

If you use a SmartPhone mainly as a phone - the battery will last pretty long. Of course it depends on which one you have.

I have a droid X.
If I use it just for calls and text and email. It lasts all day and then some.

If I use it to tether/hotspot.
Drains fast.

If you run facebook, skype or any other apps.
Drains fast.

If you play games
Drains fast.

This next step will be different for every phone.
Basically go into settings and go to applications and stop their running.

For my Droid X:

The task killer app is not necessary.
Go into the phones' "Applications" > "Manage Applications" and just "turn off" or "force stop" an application that you dont want running.

ie. Amazon Mp3. or media storage etc...

Hope this helps...

if you put your battery on battery saver, put the screen time out to 30 seconds, and turn off animations you will easily get 2 - 2.5 days out of it and i use it heavily

Hey All,

I finally bit the bullet and ditched my ancient 6 year old flip phone for a new LG Optimus V that runs Android 2.2.

This thing is really cool so far. I have loaded a couple things so I can check my gmail and yahoo accounts, and I have also loaded Pandora so I can listen to tunes whilst I whittle the day away here at work.

Does anyone have any recommendations for neat apps I should check out? Any must have apps for this thing?

Live holdem pro is a sick free poker app. Words with friends is always good as you can keep a scrabble game going with a friend for days at your leisure. Oh and there's this sweet app where you get a stripper dancing as your wallpaper then you touch the screen to make it rain on her...:D
