Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Vision(TM) Is Dallas Cowboys' Choice for New Stadium

World's Largest 1080p High-Definition LED Video Displays Will Span 60 Yards
By BusinessWire

WARRENDALE, Pa., BUSINESS WIRE -- The Dallas Cowboys, whose ingenuity and reputation for excellence are the gold standard in the National Football League, have selected Mitsubishi Electric to provide all of the fully integrated high-definition LED video displays, LED fascia ribbon boards and scoring display systems for their new stadium, which is scheduled to open for the 2009 NFL Football season.

The one-of-a-kind, four-sided scoreboard will feature the world's largest LED high-definition (1080p) video displays. The center-hung structure consists of four Diamond Vision(TM) video displays, with the two main sideline displays measuring 72 feet high by 160 feet wide and two Diamond Vision(TM) end-zone displays measuring 29 feet high by 51 feet wide. It will be suspended 110 feet directly over the center of the playing surface and stretch from one 20-yard line to the other.

"One of the central design elements of our new stadium is our center hung scoreboard. This unique feature will be an iconic symbol of our building for years to come," said Jerry Jones, owner and general manger, Dallas Cowboys Football Club. "When we were making the decision on whom to entrust with the responsibility of making our vision a reality, the quality and clarity in the Mitsubishi Diamond Vision boards was unmatched."

The new displays will allow fans on any level of the stadium to easily view the action, creating a premium on the value of the upper-level seats. And no matter where they sit, Mitsubishi Electric's exclusive 20-mm pixel pitch technology ensures the brightest, clearest images from any angle.

"The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most innovative teams in the NFL, and their new stadium reflects that," said Mark Foster, general manager of Mitsubishi Electric's Diamond Vision Systems. "The scoreboard is certainly going to add excitement and bring the fans closer to the game."

Mitsubishi Electric will also install nearly three-quarters of a mile of its signature Diamond Vision(TM) LEDerAd(TM) fascia. More than 3,600 linear feet of these stunning ribbon displays will ring the stadium and add a new level of excitement and visibility for sponsors.

The Cowboys are the second premier sports franchise to choose Diamond Vision(TM) this month. On April 1, Mitsubishi Electric announced it would install a high-definition scoreboard at the New York Yankees' new stadium, scheduled to open in 2009.

Mitsubishi Electric, the Official Large Outdoor Video Display Provider of the PGA TOUR, was the first company to introduce large-scale video display boards for the 1980 Major League Baseball All-Star game at Dodger Stadium. Since then, Mitsubishi Electric has been recognized as the leader in visually stunning displays for sports facilities, advertising, entertainment and communications. Recent record-setting installations include baseball's largest high-definition display at Turner Field in Atlanta; the first 32:9 ration HD scoreboard at AT&T Park in San Francisco; Times Square's first HD display at MTV studios; traffic-stopping marquees at Bally's and Caesars Palace in Las Vegas; a massive 11-screen display at Times Square in New York City; and the largest indoor HD screen in North America, the 34- x 110-foot screen at the Colosseum in Las Vegas. Mitsubishi Electric also created and installed the world's largest LED video display, a 37- x 218-foot, (8,000 square-foot) LED board at Tokyo Race Course.

The whole article smacks of sales (I even took out some of the more blatant sales paragraphs). If they actually sell tickets at a reasonable price, would love to see this monster live.

It is annoying now when you go to look at the replay and you can't hardly see what's going on because it's so small. That will certainly be pretty cool to have gigantic HD replays. But I wonder what they mean by premium on upper level seats. Perhaps it's not viewable from lower level.

I wonder what the viewing angle will be. Obviously the endzones are out, so if you are in the lower bowl close to the field I wonder if the board will look blurry and shadowy, like a an old crt big screen from the side.

Any idea how they keep the elements(i.e. rain, heat, humidity and snow) from adversely affecting the longevity/quality of the unit?

I think this is cool and all..but is it going to be distracting when watching a play on the field? Will it be high enough to be mostly out of your field of vision when looking at the field (when in the upper level)? Imagine a screen with moving images that HUGE and looking at something else..could be pretty distracting. Plus who wants a player's nostrils to be 10 foot caverns when you show a closeup on that 2,160" screen?

Forget about player nostrils. It'll be the closeups of the cheerleaders that'll cause a lot of ohhs and ahhs to erupt from the crowd. Talk about bustlines...

These video boards are built to withstand the elements. Also, anytime it is raining, snowing, or extremely hot, the roof will be closed and the A/C turned on.
