I liked the new Star Trek movie it was a good (not great) action movie imo. But I am a long time Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica fan and I must admit it was a dumbed down, *******ized version of Star Trek. It was an action movie while the original entities of Star Trek were science fiction shows.

I really enjoyed JJ's version of Star Trek. Even though pretty much everyone I know liked it, i guess I am an idiot and in the minority. Oh well, I hope he does a good job with Star Wars. I have a feeling it will be a good movie and hopefully a solid trilogy.

I'm not even going there with the football analogy. Here's my point on a site like Rotten Tomatoes...when I see a movie that an extremely large percentage of critics like, AND an extremely large percentage of fans like, it's a good sign the movie has something going for it. I don't agree with them all the time. I just saw "The Artist", which was highly rated and it didn't do anything for me. I just didn't care for it. But I'm not presumptuous enough to call the vast majority of critics and audiences who liked it shallow, stupid and lazy. There's a difference between hating art (or popular art). and throwing everyone who disagrees with you under the bus.

If that line of thinking doesn't work for you, so be it.

I really like rt.com also. The vast majority of time the consensus reaches 80% or so, I find the movie in question to be pretty good. It's my go-to place for movie hunting.

It says the legacy is in his hands. Sounds like an indication to me.

Legacy of one episode??
Yup. The "legacy" is in his hands for E7 then, much like the original trilogy, the "legacy" is expected to be handed off to someone else.

He's signed on for E7. He may very well end up doing more, but any reports indicating he is signed on past E7 are simply inaccurate and nothing more than fanboy speculation.

You Star Trek elitests need to get a life. The reboot was a much-needed evolution of the franchise. So y'all can argue all you want about how great Insurrection and Nemesis were, I'll take the JJ Adams reboot over anything Star Trek related that has been made since 1994.

Red Letter Media - a TREMENDOUSLY knowledgeable fan movie review website - has a great breakdown of the movie. Is it a perfect film? Nope. But there's a lot of good in there.

Well he is a Star Wars fan, And since he butchered Star Trek. He should do fine. I hope they flop and he dies penneyless and drunk in a gutter.

you liek it you like it, its called an opinion. but to sit there and argue its a star trek movie, when they call it a "reboot", which you can allude to they use the term so they can use the name and come up with any idea they want (and they pretty much did) and think its a star trek movie, when they could not come up with a good star trek movie or think of any way to go forward with the series which was being butchered by anyone who thought they had a new idea or any idea with the universe, is quiet frankly insane.

sorry but to a lot of people who grew up on the series and hold it dear and understood it for what it was, remember it wasnt a favorite of many people who wrote it off as being garbage because it was cancelled, it wasnt a star trek movie. When fans can point out the flaws and show you point by point, (yes we are nerds) that the movie is not a star trek movie, than yes, evidence points to that argument and makes it valid.

You have two different ideas that people are confusing. You can call it a good movie, thats all well and good. Can you call it a "star trek movie" not with the word reboot, you are saying "we are changing anything we want, because lets face it We either 1) never saw the original or 2) had no concept of what we were watching. Both valid points, both prove the point it was not a star trek movie.

A few common things, names, planets, and the word star trek, Possibly ranks, but after that, its like calling volkswagon a rebooted Corvette. and believe you me that doesnt go over with fans of the corvette. I can say what i want, and pay people what i think they should think, but believe me when i tell you, its not going to go over well with people who tell me, "its not a corvette we dont care if you use the word "reboot" its a volkswagon. or hey you can pay to call it whatever you want, dont use the word corvette in the title." those people will be correct.

Everytime I see/hear someone complaining about the new Star Trek movie, I think of this:

Gotta say I don't understand what your problem is. It was claimed in this thread that Abrams was signed on for episodes 7, 8 and 9. Don't get mad at me for accurately pointing out that that claim is untrue. He is only signed on for 7. Most knowledgeable people believe they will have 3 different directors for the next 3 movies but fact remains that any commentary regarding episodes 8 & 9 is just fanboy speculation.

Personally, I think the fact that they only locked him in for 1 movie speaks volumes and says they want each director to do 1 and only 1. But I admit I'm just speculating, I don't pretend I know something which just ain't true.

You made an honest mistake. I politely corrected you. No need to get your panties in a bunch, my friend.

Sure thing, buddy. Now tell us all again how Insurrection and Nemesis were cinematic masterpieces. :lmao2: :lmao2:

I'd rather watch anything Abrams has done than either of those two pieces of turd. And don't even get me started on The Final Frontier. If those movies are what people with "high standards" enjoy, then count me out. :lmao2:

How cliche is this? Start a thread about Star Wars and the Star Trek nerds complain that the new Star Trek movie wasn't nerdy enough.

The new Star Trek sucked. The old series was cheesy but this was just bad. I couldn't wait to take my kid to see it and we both walked away with the feeling we had just wasted a couple of hours. Oh well, it would be a pretty boring world if we all liked the same thing. Sorry if I'm not shallow enough to call names and belittle people for their film critique. I'll leave that to the usual suspects......

Start Trek movies 2, 4, and 6 were great. The others I try to pretend never happened. After TNG and DS9, Paramount really started losing their focus and things went sideways. Star Trek needed something.

The reboot is not what I would have done. It was fun watching younger versions of the crew and it was a fun movie ... but the story line was horrible (much like most of the Star Trek movies). The question is what happens after this? There's another reboot movie coming out but how many more? Will Paramount focus on the reboot universe for any continuing movies/tv shows? Or will they shift back to the original universe?

Star Trek is science fiction. Star Wars is space opera. Abrams is not a 'space opera' kinda guy. I would have gone in another direction. I'd bet SW 7, 8, & 9 will be fun but they may not be very "Star Warsy".

The almost universally loved, critically acclaimed, blockbuster hit, Star Trek reboot? Yes, that's him.

My thoughts exactly. I don't know anyone who did not love that film.

A lot of "Trekkies" couldn't handle the reboot, but honestly, why should the 90% of us that enjoyed the movie really care? The good news is that the new movie made lots of money, the approvals for the movie were great, critics in general loved it and a new one is on the way for us to throw in the face of the Star Trek purists  !
