I'm not sure if I'll even give this one a chance to be honest. The last one was so god awful bad that I'm not sure I'm even interested in bothering with anymore Superman movies.

I do agree with theogt on that idea of people fearing him and turning on him to some degree making for a good story. That would be interesting to see.

Yeah, I was so excited when the latest one came out, but it was just a boring movie. Hardly any action...and the whole kid angle...what the heck?

It did make me appreciate the Reeve movies that much more (save part 3 and 4).

So we now have a British Superman, Batman and Spider Man. A Brit chick also played the new Bionic Woman. Only a matter of time before an American plays James Bond, then.

That almost happened. When Roger Moore started getting to the end of the road, they actually wanted Tom Selleck but I think he was doing Magnum at that time and the price would have been too high.

Sometimes, we are better off when circumstances interviene. Unfortunately, the new Superman doesn't appear to be one of those times.

You are thinking of Pierce Brosnan and he was doing Remington Steele (same time period, mid-80s) at the time and they wouldn't let him out of his contract to become Bond. (I think they ask for something like $5M)

I get what you are saying, but when he is too invincible, then its just not a story. The bad guy is hiding? He has X-ray vision. The bad guy wants to fight? He is stronger than 1000 men. The bad guy has a gun? Bullets bounce off him. The bad guy has a diabolical scheme? He has a hidden superfortress with all the information in the universe at his disposal. The bad guy is getting away? He can fly so fast that he can change the Earth's orbit by flying counter to it. It's just not conceivable that he can be beat unless you happen to have a handy piece of rock from a planet that blew up a billion light years away from Earth.
The original concept of Superman was better, in my opinion. Originally his powers were quite limited. Super strength, ability to leap 1/8 of a mile (not fly), extremely fast... things that could be at least partially explained by him coming from a planet with a stronger gravitational pull. Making him too powerful killed the character, IMO.
I do agree that film makers could make some really incredible CGI with his limitless power. Just not my thing, I guess.

Yeah. Sometimes, it doesn't matter if you know what the outcome will be. Sometimes, it's still a blast to watch the inevitable in awe because the way in which it's accomplished is awesome. I like Superman.

No I'm not. Piece Brosnan is not American, he's Irish I believe and he was the second choice. Before him, they wanted Tom Selleck. Other then being American, he was the closest thing to being Sean Connery.

Good try thou. I had forgotten about Pierce Brosnan.

I think you mean Tom Selleck passed on being Indiana Jones which then went to Harrison Ford. I can't find *anywhere* where he was selected to be James Bond.

His big break came when he was cast — to the surprise of all — in the lead role as Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I.. The Magnum, P.I. producers would not release the actor for other projects, and, thus, Selleck had to pass on the equally enticing film project for the title role of Indiana Jones, which then went to rising star Harrison Ford.

No, I'm not getting them confused. Selleck was never selected. That's kinda the point. They wanted him but he was never cast. Doesn't really matter.

Christopher Reeve was just magic in the role. It has to be tough for anyone to don that suit.

Looks like it's going to either be Olivia Wilde or Rachel McAdams as Lois Lane.

If Rachel McAdams is cast, this automatically makes this the best Superman movie since the original.

:D

She is beautiful and has come a long way since Mean Girls.

He cant beat every character, its just the movies don't focus on the villains that can go toe to toe with him. The first superman movie sucked because it was the old Lex vs Superman rehash. I think what the new Superman movie needs is a villain that can kill superman. I.E. Superman VS Doomsday

Meh, I don't like it and I'm not impressed by the stuff he's done in the past but it all comes down to the writing. If it's anything like the last Superman, they could cast Daniel Day Lewis and it would still be awful.

If they cast Olivia Wild I will be officially done with Superman movies. Why would they do that, is Megan Fox unavailable?

I don't know her from anything but Tron. She seemed fine there. I would prefer not to have Megan Fox, as she's become a cliche.

McAdams is the perfect choice in my opinion. Good looking, but not in a super model way -- Lois should be sexy, but not a super model. Plus, you know, she can actually act and I can see her as a reporter type.

Olivia Wild is the new Megan Fox. If Fox hadn't mocked Michael Bay into hating her, she'd probably be up for the role as well.

There is absolutely nothing special about Olivia, she just is suddenly the new "hot girl" to put in movies beside a leading man. I absolutely detest that crap.

So many good actresses and the Megan Fox's of the world keep landing in blockbuster after blockbuster.

McAdams is alright since like you said she's got the look and the persona, Olivia Wild is famous for being hot and that's it.

Idealy, they'd get outside their comfort zone. I'd go with Zooey Deschanel personally, maybe even Rachel Weisz if they want an actual woman and not a girl.

Zooey's not a bad choice, but probably too close to the Margot Kidder Lois for Snyder's taste. Weisz is too old at this point.

Did you actually see Superman Returns? There has to be some sort of draw to bring people back after that load of crap...and McAdams would be a step in the right direction.
